- "What do you know of the Book of Vishanti?"
"The Darkhold's antithesis. It can give a sorcerer whatever power they need to vanquish their enemy." - âDoctor Strange and Baron Mordo[src]
The Book of Vishanti was an ancient book of knowledge and power that could be used by sorcerers. Its capabilities were considered the direct antithesis of the Darkhold.
History[]
Secret of the Mystic Arts[]
- "The Book of Vishanti? It's not real, it's a fairy tale. It doesn't exist."
"Actually it does." - âDoctor Strange and Wong[src]
The location of the Book of Vishanti was unknown to the Masters of the Mystic Arts and any knowledge that was known about the Book signified that it was unreachable, as the Masters are unaware of the existence of Gap Junction. Wong learned about the legend of the Book of Vishanti after becoming Sorcerer Supreme.[1]
Sought by Doctor Strange[]
- "The Book of Vishanti is said to be unreachable."
"It is, except we reached it." - âWong and America Chavez[src]
In an alternate universe, Doctor Strange had told America Chavez about the Book of Vishanti and how it could help them defeat whoever was after them. They were able to find where the book was being held, although the Ribboned Creature that was after them had caught up and continued chasing them.
Though the two were close to reaching the book, the creature blocked their way and Strange tried to contain it. But using all his energy while injured, Strange tried to take Chavez's power to stop the creature, but he was severely injured by it. Chavez tried to reach the Book, but she was caught by the creature. Trying to free herself, Chavez unwittingly opened a portal to the main universe as Strange freed her. The two were pulled in without a chance to get the book.[1]
Infinity War[]
- "Stephen renounced the Darkhold's evil and helped us find the Book of Vishanti, a weapon we did use together to defeat Thanos."
- âProfessor X to Doctor Strange[src]
In an alternate universe, the Illuminati confronted Thanos, although Doctor Strange believed that the answer to defeating Thanos was somewhere in the Multiverse. Strange found his universe's Darkhold and began dreamwalking into other universes to find a solution, although there was nothing. He decided to continue dreamwalking; causing an incursion in the process; until he confessed his actions to the rest of the Illuminati.
Eventually, Strange renounced the Darkhold and helped to find the Book of Vishanti, which they used to defeat Thanos. Strange created a waypoint to the Book in case of an emergency. After the Battle of Titan, Strange, knowing his actions could not be reversed, allowed himself to be killed at the hands of Black Bolt.[1]
Destroyed by Scarlet Witch[]
- "Alright, book. Give me what I need."
- âDoctor Strange[src]
Christine Palmer led Doctor Strange and America Chavez through the sewers until they reached a hatch at the end. Having no options, Palmer gave Strange his watch back, which he used to open the hatch. They then entered the Gap Junction and Strange grabbed the Book of Vishanti. But Scarlet Witch; who was dreamwalking in her alternate self, arrived and grabbed Chavez. She then destroyed the Book of Vishanti before Strange could use it.[1]
Capabilities[]
- "You knew of this magical book of pure good that gives a sorcerer anything they need to defeat their enemy."
- âAmerica Chavez to Doctor Strange[src]
The Book of Vishanti was able to grant a sorcerer anything they needed to defeat their enemy. It was known as the antithesis to the Darkhold's dark, corrupted and corrosive magic, as said by Karl Mordo. The Book of Vishanti was able to resist the magic of the Darkhold empowered Scarlet Witch possessing her counterpart when in Doctor Strange's possession, but it was destroyed by the former's quicker thinking, who used her full power to burn the Book of Vishanti into ashes.
