The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, better known by its acronym NASA, is a governmental aerospace and aeronautics research agency of the United States and is responsible for the country's civilian space program.
History[]
Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S.[]
NASA partnered with the United States Air Force and S.H.I.E.L.D. to create Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. in order to study the Tesseract.[1]
Project Distant Star Return[]
- "NASA was always curious about the Monolith."
- âWill Daniels[src]
In 2001, Gideon Malick was consulting for NASA. He advised to use the Monolith to travel to Maveth, a planet on the other side of the portal.[2] Jane Thompson and Luther Banks assisted him in the project.[3] NASA sent an astronaut, Will Daniels, and three scientists, G. Taylor, Brubaker, and S. Austin, through the portal to survey the planet on until a rescue team could come to retrieve them. However, the three scientists were killed by something Daniels called "It". The portal was never reopened and Daniels was alone on Maveth.[4] That expedition was secretly orchestrated by a HYDRA cell led by Malick who was trying to bring the thing, Hive, back to Earth.[2] The facility of the project was eventually abandoned.[3]
Project Valhalla[]
Using the alias Jane Thompson, Rosalind Price worked for NASA on Project Valhalla, a short-lived initiative designed to detect useful or hazardous alien assets before they entered Earth's atmosphere.[5]
Restart of P.E.G.A.S.U.S.[]
Restarting the Project, NASA worked with S.H.I.E.L.D. at the Joint Dark Energy Mission Facility in the Mojave Desert to research the Tesseract, along with Erik Selvig, to attempt to provide unlimited self-sustaining energy for the world. When Loki arrived and began the Destruction of Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S., a female NASA scientist working with Selvig attempted to hide from the chaos, but she was shot and killed by an energy blast from the Scepter.[6]
