- "I cannot be your partner if you do not tell me what's going on."
"You're not my partner. Do you understand that? You never were." - âKate Bishop and Clint Barton
Partners, Am I Right? is the fourth episode of the first season of Hawkeye.
Synopsis[]
Secrets are revealed and hard truths emerge, culminating in a battle against two opposing forces.
Plot[]
Jack Duquesne holds Clint Barton at swordpoint, but is forced to drop his attack when Kate and Eleanor Bishop arrive. Eleanor was notified of Kate's usage of her account to breach into Bishop Security, prompting her to reveal that she and Barton were working together to solve a criminal case. Kate attempts to excuse herself out, but is stopped by Eleanor. Sending Barton to the elevator, she tells him to keep her daughter safe. Kate tries to tell her mother about Duquesne's secret again, but is silenced as the couple prepare to arrange a festive party.
Barton texts Laura to look into Kazi Kazimierczak's involvement with Sloan Limited, later learning that the company was a money laundering front for the Tracksuit Mafia with Duquesne as its CEO. He is also alerted to a Rolex from the Avengers Compound that was stolen by the Tracksuits at a black market auction. Returning to the safehouse apartment for the night, he is joined by Bishop and the dog as they plan their next course of action while simultaneously celebrating the holidays with various festivities, such as a movie marathon and tree decorating. But as they are enjoying their time, Barton ends up retelling his first encounter with Natasha Romanoff to Bishop. Asking him about the Blip, she learns that Barton lost his family in the fallout, his grief leading him to become Ronin. After Bishop goes to bed, Barton deafens his hearing aid and recalls his time as Ronin in the dark.
A new day dawns. As they ran dry on trick arrows, Barton assigns Bishop to retrieve them from the New York City LARPers at an NYPD facility as he confronts Kazimierczak about Maya Lopez. As he is the only one who can communicate with her, the Tracksuit lieutenant is warned that Lopez's thirst for vengeance against Ronin would lead her into mortal danger. Barton rendezvous with Bishop at the apartment, who agrees to provide the first responders with materials to engineer new costumes for them all, including the archer duo. As he recovers the arrows, he also receives a tip from Laura about the location of the Rolex in an apartment elsewhere. Since the watch is tied to the identity of an individual close to Barton, he and Bishop leave to retrieve it.
Against Barton's direction, Bishop infiltrates the apartment building by entering it through the front door instead of breaking in from the outside. After locating the Rolex, she also finds a notebook listed with the names of Barton's family. As Bishop had triggered a silent alarm when she entered the apartment, she is subsequenty attacked by its owner-- Lopez. Simultaneously, Barton is ambushed by a Black Widow assassin. Bishop and Lopez escape the apartment through Barton's zipline, where the three factions battle each other on the rooftop of another building. The Widow throws Bishop off the roof, forcing Barton to break her fall with his grapple in a matter reminiscent of Romanoff's sacrifice.
Although being told to flee by Barton, Bishop returns to the roof and fires a sonic arrow, separating the three. She then strikes Lopez, leading her to retreat. Barton manages to unmask the Widow, revealing her to be Yelena Belova, who was hired to take him out. After Belova sees her identity has been revealed, she flees. Barton informs Bishop that these newfound circumstances mean she cannot tag along with him any further as it is too dangerous. To her dismay, she is sent back home.
