- The Vulcan T'Von, a security officer of the time-displaced Deep Space Station K-13 who had settled on T'Von's island on 20 Draconis III in 1572, kept a personal log. On 19 September, she felt her death coming and confirmed it with a tricorder, prompting T'Von to record her last log.[6]

- Montgomery Scott is sent to Scotland from 2273, where he saves Seamus MacIntyre from execution. The two are later involved in the Battle of Culloden.[7]

- 24 August: The Enterprise-class frigate HMS Enterprise is launched.[4]

- 18 May: A British naval vessel is captured by Benedict Arnold in Canada and rechristened Enterprise.[9][10]
- August: Colonel Arnold brings 1,000 men aboard Enterprise and two other ships to attack Montreal. The ships were forced to retreat when reinforcements arrived. [11]

- 4 July: The United States of America is founded with the signing of the Declaration of Independence from the British Empire. By 2271, the United States will be made up of 56 different states from the North American continent.[12]
- The Continental Army defeates British troops advancing in Harlem Heights.[13]
- 17 September: Spain establishes the Presidio as a military garrison in San Francisco.[4][14]
- 11 October: British Royal Navy forces pummel the American fleet in Lake Champlain, but Enterprise leads their damaged ships to safety through a dense fog, denying the British an outright victory and giving America time to fortify its defenses.[4][10]
