Cookbook

A cookbook was a literary work that collected various cuisine recipes, usually related to a region or species.

History and specifics[]

In the 23rd century, Cyrano Jones acquired a number of genuine Klingon cookbooks. They featured recipes for such dishes as aaktay, berena, gargara dakria, kiros kai faki, lakana, ooruni kapiki, ryparia sauron, and seetos lagon. Jones sold the books to construction workers at a Federation space station. With their weaker digestive systems, the workers suffered horribly after eating some of the meals, even leaving a few of them hospitalized. In the 2260s decade, Nurse Christine Chapel collected a copy of the cookbook. Noted on the pages, angry workers had circled recipes they looked forward to serving to Jones as revenge. As the Federation ambassador to Mestiko, Settoon remarked in 2291 that he could write a Meals of Mestiko cookbook after making many native dishes during his eight-year stay on Mestiko. (TOS - Mere Anarchy eBook: The Blood-Dimmed Tide)

In 2366, Gretchen Gaelen offered Captain Jean-Luc Picard a goulash made with a recipe from her great-great-grandmother's cookbook. (TNG novel: Contamination)

In 2377, Neelix was eager to follow in the footsteps of The Doctor's holo-novel Photons be Free. He quickly compiled a proposal for a holo-cookbook called Cooking with Neelix, a Culinary Tour of the Delta Quadrant. (VOY episode: "Author, Author")

In the 25th century, a library on Pyris VII contained cookbooks such as 101 Ways To Serve Gagh, Great Recipes of Neelix, vol X., and The IDIC Cookbook. (STO mission: "Cat's Tale")

In 2269 of a timeline crated by the Romulan's Second History project, survival gear left in a desert wilderness for VSS ShiKahr's officers Jeremy Richardson and Ensign James T. Kirk included Romulan cookbooks. The stashed gear also included cans of t'krouma and s'latami, possible ingredients. (TOS novel: Killing Time)

In 2371, in the Nexus after the USS Enterprise-D crashed on Veridian III, Data found himself fully human in a mid-21st century house. He looked through a cookbook in the kitchen and then made himself an omelet with milk and eggs. (TNG - Strange New Worlds VI short story: "Tribble in Paradise")

A few licensed Star Trek cookbooks have been published, including the Official Star Trek Cooking Manual written in-universe by Christine Chapel, the Star Trek Cookbook written in-universe by Neelix, and The Star Trek Cookbook.
