The Sulek-class was a type of Federation starship in service to Starfleet in the mid-23rd century as a prospector or a survey vessel. (TOS novel: How Much for Just the Planet?)
Technical specifications[]
Though very small, Sulek-class ships were actually comfortable for their usual crew of three Starfleet or civilian officers. They did have a cramped bridge, but they made up for that by boasting a fairly spacious mess hall / briefing room for the crew to relax in or to discuss ship's business. Like larger starships, they were equipped with standard food synthesizers. Though capable of creating meals of appropriate niutritional value and acceptable taste and texture, certain food synth units had been known to suffer a minor glitch, causing beverages like orange juice to have a vivid, electric blue hue, or for Southern fare like grits to come out signal-flare orange.
Ships of this class boasted an impressive sensor array, similar in appearance to the navigational deflector dish of the Constitution-class.
Though too small to have a hangar, they were equipped with a small spherical escape pod.
Though capable of a cruising speed of warp 4, if they were forced to use breakaway speeds in orbit of a planet, their inertial dampeners would not be able to compensate, creating a fatal hazard for the crew. (TOS novel: How Much for Just the Planet?)
