Majutsushi Orphen Hagure Tabi

In a world of magic and monsters, Krylancelo Finrandi and his foster sister Azalie Cait-Sith were once promising students of sorcery, prodigies at the famous Tower of Fangs. But an experiment gone horribly wrong warps Azalie's appearance, trapping her in the form of a dragon.

Elders at the Tower—more interested in preserving their reputation rather than their students' lives—drive off the transformed Azalie and cover up the incident. Outraged, Krylancelo strikes out on his own, taking the new name of "Orphen" and vowing to return Azalie to her normal state.

Five years later, Orphen's quest has stalled. A chance encounter brings him face to face with Azalie again, but he still has no way to restore her body. And with a hostile group of sorcerers hunting her down, he may be running out of time. The past and present collide as Orphen tries to find how to save Azalie from their former teachers and friends.

You might like this show if you're a similar anime fan as I am;
Watching Bleach, Naruto, DBZ, Gundam Seed etc. whatever was on the weekend channels wherever you grew up (as for me, YTV in Canada).

This is a good show. Good action sequences (not just brief flashes of MC in different positions to signify movement, but well-choreographed fight scenes). Good character development, and good side characters.

Orphen is the story of one of the strongest wizard apprentices in history abandoning his wizarding school when they basically label his best-friend-turned-monster as a target to be killed. So, he follows his values and leaves the organization. Basically, this ... season is about him trying to save the person in question, while exploring the world and meeting new people. It was super refreshing to find a new anime that was action-based where the MC wasn't a complete limp-**** simp, which so many people seem to love. He is strong right from the beginning but not too OP, and has good character.

They don't hold your hand with deaths or violence in this anime, not that it's over the top but it's still none of that "five inch laceration on your stomach that doesn't bleed and I'm fine in the next scene" nonsense.
I up-rated this a bit because it blew my mind to see a 5.80 rating when legit rape and pedophile animes have higher ratings on this site, god help the depraved virgins that watch and defend that garbage.

Good fights, decent story that tracks, and decent characters make for a solid 7/10 anime that brings any 25+ person back to their childhood with the anime vibes that this gives off, in a good way.

If I've learned anything from this site, it's not to ignore the low-rating animes. Remember the type of illegal shit that goes on in so many high-rated anime (ishizoku reviewers or whatever, come on that little angel child has vivid sex scenes with some pedophile excuse that 'hey it's anime I'm older than I look!) and never forget that those people have equal rating rights as you. If you see a premise you like and art style that looks decent, put 10 minutes into watching it and feeling out the waters instead of 20 minutes reading reviews written by people with different preferences.

Mixed Feelings

Animation: As a long-time fan of this series, I had high expectations but I feared Deen would reprise their freakshow of Nanatsu. I was dead wrong, but they didn't improve that much either. Deen is actually good with fighting scenes and effects, although they're too quick to get a taste. The first episode has an ok fight while the brawl with Salua was very good-looking indeed. The only good-looking frames are the close-ups. Background characters always look weird and badly drawn. Scenarios are mostly static and lifeless. So basically, animation-wise, this first season is a 5/10

Story: A good story on its own doesn't hold much ... longer, because it needs proper adaptation and Deen rushed the fuck out of it, damn. All the books up until 6 range from 140 to 190 pages, so at least 3 to 4 episodes by book adapted. The first book got 4 episodes, but they cut content and decided to drag on the 4th episode with tons of flashbacks so they managed to make the first arc look both rushed and dragged. Books adapted were 1,4,5 and 6. Book 2 has important lore elements, that's why they had to make an OVA to explain it. Book 3 doesn't add that much but it's one of the most gory and violent stories and it has a thriller feeling, so it wouldn't fit well in Deen's shoneing up of this series (Yes, Orphen is a SEINEN series). Book 4 had 2 episodes, rushed too. The story gets better with books 5 and 6 because they had more episodes to them and didn't commit the same mistake as the first arc, so I'd give the story adaptation an overall of 6/10, considering what was adapted.

Music: It's lackluster almost all the time if you ask me. It does its job, but it's not remarkable. I think it only stands out during very dramatic scenes and that's it, which is a shame since 98 and Revenge had a kickass OST, so I'd give this a 6/10.

This anime is honestly one of the most boring things I've ever watched. It has barely any redeeming qualities, has too much useless, uninteresting dialogue and only has a small and I mean really small amount of good moments.


Story - 3

Yeah the story definitely isn’t the greatest thing ever told. The story is basically just about transforming this dragon Azalie back into their original form with a lot of magic and sorcery stuff. But this seems to be the only focus of the show, Rushing all the side stories from the 90s original anime. Then proceeding to drag the main story on for the whole ... show where it becomes uninteresting and bland after being shown the same stuff over and over.

Now maybe if there was some unique stuff happening every episode. Maybe if the episodes were something like a plot twist episode followed by a villain’s backstory episode or something it would be entertaining enough. However all that happens in this show is shooting a beam of light at an enemy and now the enemy is defeated. Rinse and repeat it’s the same thing almost every episode.

Art - 5

The art and animation isn’t really that bad actually. Thing is this new artstyle does not fit the show that much. Now all the characters have this odd modern design that still looks dated. And like I said about the fights earlier in the review they definitely don’t have the most impressive animation either. The show just looks pretty bland now with not much personality. It isn't bad but it really does not fit how epic looking the show used to be.

Sound - 5

Again the sound isn’t that bad, it just doesn’t fit the show that much. The opening sounded alright and fit the show a little bit. The ending didn’t really fit the show though. There’s also a lot more wrong with the sound. Some of the voice acting sounds off with some of the characters. Same with the background music which also happens to play at the wrong time like some techno rave music in the middle of some serious moment or something.

Character - 2

The characters in the show got barely any development or basically anything during the entire show. You really did not care for any of them unlike the original. In this show the characters are just here and don’t really do much. I feel like in this show they only focus on the main character Orphen too much and push all the side characters to the side. And even then you still don’t care about the protagonist because when there’s not much interaction with other characters, no characters really feel interesting.

You didn’t really hate the characters with a burning passion. Instead you just sat there and watched the characters do this and that with no character development or interactions at all.
It was just boring when there’s only one character the show focuses on instead of a whole cast of characters to love.

Enjoyment - 2

I don’t really see how anybody would like this anime that much. Or not get bored of it after like 3 episodes. It’s a bland and boring remake of a decent fantasy anime. There isn’t much reason to watch this unless you have absolutely nothing to watch. It isn’t a good remake or a standalone anime. It also isn’t a good fantasy anime and there is an abundance of actually good fantasy anime to watch instead of this.

Overall this show is really uninteresting. There is nothing to keep you hooked with barely any variety and really bland characters. I don’t hate this show with a burning passion. However it is a terrible remake and a really boring fantasy anime with so much other anime to watch. It doesn’t provide any entertainment and you’re better off watching paint dry or counting every single pixel on your TV because this is not worth watching.
