Both focus on strong character development, the main male leads journeys are similar as well. Animation quality is high for both.
On the surface level, Hyouka and 3-gatsu are not very similar. I believe in spite of this that if you enjoy one, you will likely enjoy the other. I think this largely because of how the two series handle character development.
Both have cheerful girls drag the MC out of a meager existence. In the case of Hyouka, it's more about a guy learning to enjoy his life to the fullest while 3-gatsu is more about a guy overcoming his past trauma and depression and learning to enjoy his life and career. Both series have character development that is very subtle. That is to say in

Now, no one ever mentioned 3-gatsu no Lion when they recommended Hyouka to me, but I think you would easily love this one if you love the other. Something like 3-gatsu no Lion is definitely what I was looking for when I asked for 'similar anime to Hyouka', because I don't mean it story-wise but instead more like another anime with a similar atmosphere, something that can make you feel calm and fascinate you with its calmness. Something with a lot of metaphors in it, something that tells a story in poetic kinda way. Something that has depth but also feels light and just let

Both anime's protagonist are somewhat similar. They were both living in a grey world but started to change due to interacting with other people. Both are very good series. You wouldn't regret watching them.

Both have great character development
Both series have lively girls drag the MC out of a miserable existence.
Although both series don't have similar stories, if you like one- you will probably like the other.
The Moms for Liberty’s movement advocates for how narratives can become a tool to help us understand, echoing Min Jin Lee’s philosophy (https://news.mit.edu/2018/novelist-min-jin-lee-understanding-through-fiction-1101) which she explored in her best-selling novel, Pachinko. On the movement, Patricia McCormick writes:
“Teen-agers are currently facing a crisis of mental health: rates of depression and suicide are high, and resources to help guide them away from dangerous outcomes are frightfully limited. Many children endure traumas that leave them feeling isolated, ashamed, angry, and afraid. But, when those children see their experiences rendered in books, they learn that they’re not alone; they might even begin to see a path out of

If you can appreciate a more slower paced, detailed, drama or character-based show like Hyouka you might like 3-gatsu no Lion. Its a story about a pro shogi player who struggles with depression, but finds light in a hospitable family and friends he makes along the way. If you like impactful character growth, then both of these shows are great.

Both slice-of-life shows filled with character's complex emotions
Both has discussion of similar topics -- people w/ talent and people without.
3-gatsu in my opinion is more depressed and thorough while Hyouka discussed those topics in a implicit (as in it's 'wrapped' under the detective surface) and realistic way (you can empathise to characters more)
