Yet the draw of both of these series comes from the series following new characters on adventures separate from the previous series of characters, although for the Pokemon series Ash is a known constant. The character styles also improved as the series progressed and it might be possible to pick up either series without perhaps knowing what happened in the predecessor series.

The series that many consider to be the end of a generation. Both shows do have good sequel series, but this is where a large portion of the viewing audience dropped off for both.
