They both employ similar tactics of trying to play on emotions to cover up how shallow the characters actually are. This of course is just how I feel about them. If you enjoyed one you may enjoy the other.
Brutally the same, for the ages 18 and up. "Never judge a book by its cover"
People who have a weak heart are not recommended to watch either of the two.
1. The boy lied, the boy is an asshole (actally a looser).
2. Broken hearted girl/s who seek for revenge
3. Nudity
To be honest in my opinion School Days is much better than Elfen Lied, from originality to characters. There's atleast lots of sex so the nudity is justifiable.

Both anime take place in a dark atmosphere, but they will pull you into their characters. These anime take you on a gloomy road that expresses how love is an undying feeling.

Both are violent for the sake of violence. They also both have an annoyingly spoon fed message to boot.
Revolving around highly unconventional romances & relationships, both anime get cruelly dark and are full of characters (including some from the main cast) you're likely to outright hate. Both also have dated low-budget animation (though sometimes Elfen Lied looks good). Stay away if you're faint of heart, but if you can enjoy watching things get progressively worse for everyone involved then you're in for a ride.

In the case of our community, oftentimes edgy anime and dumb characters are frowned upon. Though I feel like despite this, there are still redeeming qualities an anime can have that are looked over. School Days and Elfen Lied is a good example. With the former suffering from idiotic people, the latter suffering from "trying too hard".
School Days and Elfen Lied do a good job of presenting the harsh reality that can be faced and viewed by some individuals in a believable, but extreme manner. Not necessarily downright edgy or stupid. With School Days using an eroding love story for such purposes, Elfen Lied using

Brutal, edgy, unforgettable classics of the 2000s. Nudity, blood (School Days only in the last ep tho), dumb characters and unexpected turns of atmosphere. I personally enjoyed both of them, Schools Days a bit more despite the usage of filler mostly during the middle. They both have flaws with no doubts and I wouldn't say they're good shows but despite that I think they work just fine at least with being entertaining
