Both series focus heavily on story telling with the characters trying to go against their fate
Both feature a school for teenagers who want to become stage girls - artists. While in Princess Tutu the girls want to be ballerinas (and there are boys who want that, too), in Revue they can follow any path they like, such as acting, singing, dancing, etc. Amidst all that, some fantastical elements exist, be it a talking giraffe or a boy whose heart was broken in many pieces. Both also feature fights that involve dancing or other kind of stage performances.

Two anime focused on performing arts, with unusual battles that involve dancing and an incredible music.
They are magical girl anime that focus more on the performing arts rather than regular magic. They are both set in schools that teach these performing arts and the characters are students there. They both have psychological elements to them as well. Tutu is more about ballet while Revue Starlight is more about revues.
Both involve storytelling through performance (ballet and musical theater), including great orchestral music and the perils of Dance School That Has Secrets. Also, important talking animal characters.
Other than having musical magical girls, both share fights against fate and stories paralleling in-series stories. Also unexpected dark twists, and nice choreography that combines dance and combat.

Both shows focus on the students of a school of performative arts, with a narrative about... well, the narrative. The characters rebel against the tragedythey are stuck in, as dictated by a story-within-a-story, which lends itself to meta-discussions about stories and fate. Both shows further have some mahou shoujo elements, Princess Tutu obviously more so. In both, the characters fight using dancing to convey their emotions.
