Kaitai Shinroku is a guidebook focused on Monsters and Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation. It was released in a Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation DVD box set.^[1]

Character Introduction[]

A collection of introductions to various Monsters characters, with short summaries on their involvement in the one-shot and notes about adapting them to Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation. Notably, this section explicitly refers to Shimotsuki Ryuma's sword during the events of Monsters to be Shusui, and treats the original design as simply being outdated.

This section is broken up by interview segments with the ONA's cast, titled "Cast Conversations", and ends with an interview with Kazuya Nakai and a column introducing Ryuma and Zoro's distant relationship.

Akiko Fujita Sound Director Interview[]

An interview with Akiko Fujita, the sound director of Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation. The interview discusses the process of casting and hiring voice actors, comparisons to the Monsters voice comic, and difficulties with recording during the COVID-19 pandemic, among other topics related to the dubbing of the ONA.

Interview with Director Sunghoo Park: Making of Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation[]

An interview with Sunghoo Park, the director of Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation. He walks through the entire process of creating the ONA, beginning with when he was asked to direct it and discussing the process of rereading the one-shot, designing characters with Eiichiro Oda, translating scenes, and even hiding Pandaman.

The interview includes Oda's first original sketches of the anime version of the Monsters characters, notably including D.R.'s fatter appearance and Shusui, which he describes as "how the characters would look [if Monsters was written] now."

A discussion between Eiichiro Oda and Kaoru Kushima, his first professional editor. Among other things, they discuss the successful adaptation of Monsters, how they met, and various scrapped manuscripts and concept art Oda drew in the past.

DVD Box Set[]

The "Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation" Official Guidebook DVD Great Business Box (『MONSTERS 一百三情飛龍侍極』 公式ガイドブックDVD同梱BOX 大業匣, “Monsutāzu: Ippyakusanjō Hiryū Jigoku” Kōshiki Gaidobukku DVD Dōkon Bokkusu Taigyō Kushige^?), of which Kaitai Shinroku is a part, is a deluxe release of the Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation ONA. It includes the databook, a One Piece Card Game card of Shimotsuki Ryuma drawn by Eiichiro Oda, and a DVD of the ONA.

The DVD Box was available for pre-order by mail-in form as of February 18, 2024,^[2] and online as of March 25, 2024.^[3] While pre-orders were advertised as closing on April 19 2024^[1] and being made to-order,^[4] they have never stopped being sold.^[5]

Trivia[]

• Kaitai Shinroku (解体新録^?) can be translated as "Deconstruction New Record", as in a book describing the process of constructing Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation.
