Thebes (Θῆβαι, Thēbai) was a city in Ancient Egypt about 800 km south of the Mediterranean Sea, on the east bank of the river Nile (25°42′00″N 32°38′42″E / 25.7°N 32.645°E). It was the capital of Waset, the fourth Upper Egyptian nome.
