Diablo House is a horror comic written by Ted Adams, illustrated by Santeperez and published by IDW Publishing.
An Affectionate Parody of the horror comics of old, the comic takes place at the titular Diablo House, a mysterious building in La Jolla, California where every room has a story about someone who went down a dark path. Presenting these stories to the audience is a Surfer Dude named Riley, who is always eager to inform the reader of the house's history.
The series ran for four issues.
Tropes:
- Affectionate Parody: The comic is a loving tribute to 1950's horror comics, complete with a Horror Host provided in the form of a Surfer Dude named Riley.
- Black Comedy Animal Cruelty: The fourth issue's main story has Senor Diablo botch the "rabbit out of hat" trick by accidentally ripping the rabbit's head off.
- Driven to Suicide: The Art of the Deal has the protagonist leap to his doom from his apartment window after seeing that his actions have resulted in the Trumplica he worked as a ghostwriter for becoming President.
- End-of-Series Awareness: The backup story of the fourth issue ends with Riley stating "That's all, folks" and addressing that they may have gone too far with the last story.
- Horror Host: The stories of the comic are presented by a morbid Surfer Dude named Riley.
- Never Smile at a Crocodile: Lex Dillon's tale ends with him being eaten alive by alligators.
- Surfer Dude: The comic's horror host Riley isn't that far removed from the stereotypical Californian surfer, aside from leaning more towards the macabre.
- Trumplica: The fourth issue's backup story "The Art of the Deal" focuses on an unnamed celebrity chef and caricature of Donald Trump who hires the hapless protagonist of the story to ghostwrite his book The Art of the Meal. The Trump stand-in is shown to be a crass, lazy and lecherous asshole who winds up becoming President of the United States and nuking the country to oblivion.
