Quiver is a 2001 Green Arrow storyline written by Kevin Smith with art by Phil Hester. It spans from Green Arrow (2001) #1-10.
In 2000, writer Kevin Smith (yeah, that one) brought Oliver Queen back to life in a new Green Arrow ongoing series, which also returned the action to Star City. By the end of the first storyline, Oliver had become a millionaire again. The trick arrows were back too and Ollie began to rekindle his relationship with Black Canary (who in the meantime had recovered her own powers) and began to build a relationship with his son, Connor. He also picked up a new sidekick - teen prostitute Mia Dearden - who eventually took over the name of Speedy.
Quiver provides examples of:
- Abusive Parents: Stanley, Sr, is an abusive grandparent.
- Achilles in His Tent: The real Oliver Queen would much rather stay dead and remain in Heaven then go back and face the consequences of his actions.
- A Form You Are Comfortable With: Hal Jordan (during his time as the Spectre) is forced to do this twice for Oliver Queen, first into his Green Lantern costume and then the second time into his normal pilot's uniform.
- Arc Villain: Stanley Dover Sr.
- Back from the Dead: The arc was meant to reintroduce Ollie after his death and a major part of the arc is getting Ollie's soul to rejoin the revived body and stop Stanley Sr. from taking it.
- The Cameo: Morpheus makes another one, this time in his usual form.
- Continuity Nod: After The Monster erases Stanley Jr.'s memories of his torture, Stanley asks the monster if they can build a treehouse together, a callback to the 1993 miniseries.
- Darker and Edgier: Unlike the Stanley and His Monster miniseries from the '90s, it's for real this time. Stanley is abducted and tortured by his satanist, namesake grandfather, who wants Spot to be his servant, who ends up being so angry that he eats Stanley's grandfather. Thank god it all ends on a (relatively) happy note: Spot only eats Stanley's grandfather because he really, really deserved it, and the Monster later erases Stanley's memories of all this horror to restore his mental health.
- Didn't Think This Through: Stanley Sr. tortures his grandson to summon the monster. As it turns out, Stanley Sr. didn't have any plan of how to deal with the really, really ticked off monster.
- Fluffy Cloud Heaven: This is revealed to be the fate of the real Oliver Queen. Heaven is depicted as a lush green land filled with personages like Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., and Jason Todd .
- Grand Theft Me: Part of Stanley Sr.'s plot is taking to take over the soulless body of Ollie. This is foiled when the real Ollie's soul decided to rejoin the body.
- Harmful to Minors: What Stanley underwent.
- One-Steve Limit, subclass "If There's Two Steves, It's For A Reason": The Stanley-and-His-Monster part of the plot begins when Green Arrow meets an elderly man named Stanley Dover, who turns out to be young Stanley's eponymous grandfather. And also the satanist who is trying to summon the Monster; it's suggested that an earlier attempt by the elder Stanley to summon the Monster to himself resulted in the Monster being summoned to the wrong Stanley, leading to their first meeting and all that followed.
- Something Only They Would Say: Aquaman becomes convinced Oliver really has returned when the latter goes on a rant against intrusive paparazzi.Oliver: Will you jackals get back behind the barricades before you get yourselves killed? We're dealing with a nut case in a wet suitnote over here!
- What the Hell, Hero?: The soulless Oliver gives his older self one of these when he finds out Connor is their son.Oliver: Listen to me, Queen! Grow the hell up and take some responsibility here!
- Undressing the Unconscious: Batman does this to Oliver so he can give him a thorough medical examination in the Batcave—to prove Oliver truly is Back from the Dead and not an imposter.Oliver: Where the hell are my pants?
