Sammy J (real name: Samuel Jonathan McMillan) is an Australian musical comedian, satirist, writer and radio presenter. Sammy J has frequently collaborated with fellow Australian puppet comedian Randy Feltface, and from 2018 to 2023 produced a weekly political sketch for the ABC.
Tropes associated with Sammy J and his work:
- Butt-Dialing Mordor: From "Faustian Pact":It seems our whistling has accidentally summoned the Prince of Darkness.
- The "Fun" in "Funeral": "There'll Be Someone at My Funeral Who Doesn't Want to Be There" describes the unusual collection of individuals Sammy J expects to be attending his funeral, and their disparate reasons for being there. Also quiche.
- Heroic Fire Rescue: Sammy claims this in "Back When I Was Your Age":And I once saved a group of puppies from a burning orphanage,
Then I went back inside and saved the orphans too - Invisible President: Averted in Sammy's 2023 show Good Hustle, then current Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese appears via video insert to offer Coach the job of Australian Ambassador to the United States.
- Not Dead, Just Asleep: The song "Pink Clouds" is about a man who discovers what he thinks is a dead body in the park. He becomes excited because he gets to call the police, and imagines he will appear on the news. Then the 'dead body' wakes up. The man then strangles him so he won't look like an idiot when the police arrive.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: From the song "Back When I Was Your Age":And if you hear that I once drank too much and threw up in a rubbish bin
On Swanston Street in two-thousand and three
Whilst only wearing underpants, 'cause that’s just how I rolled
I promise you that person wasn't me
