Cheater, Cheater

Go To

Cheater, Cheater (alternatively known as Mangoball or MangobaII, after the creator) is a Dream SMP RPF Crack Fic posted on Twitter.

The story starts with Sapnap cheating on George with Dream. When George finds out, he's heartbroken and uses Dream to get over him, but they slowly fall in love with each other. This simple premise somehow spirals into wacky hijinks involving break-ins and Disney.

An archive of the whole story can be found here.

Cheater, Cheater contains examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Bad does this to Technoblade, much to Dream's chagrin, first by calling him "Technology Blade" then by calling him "Technology Bladesmith".
  • Aerith and Bob: We have Dream, Corpse, Quackity, and BadBoyHalo. Then we have George, Karl, and Wilbur. Lampshaded by George.
George: why do all of you have such weird names... i'm the only normal named one...
George: Quackity... Corpse... Dream... Bad boy halo... Techno blade... Karl... Crazy wack names I feel like i am living in a Circus town
  • Affectionate Parody: Of most DreamNotFound fanfiction, with Dream and George's personalities being exaggerations of how they are usually represented: George is a gullible and helpless idiot, while Dream is his devout and overprotective boyfriend.
  • Affection-Hating Kid: Whenever Dream expresses affection for George, there's a good chance Tommy will start a space talking about how he hates Dream. Played with in that while he is one of the youngest members of the cast (if not the youngest), he's still a teenager and old enough to have a Twitter account.
  • Age-Gap Romance: Implied between Bad and George. George mentions one of his exes being his roommate's dad and Bad is Quackity's biological father.
  • Am I Just a Toy to You?: At first, George thinks Dream's just a fuckbuddy he can use to get his mind off Sapnap while Dream thinks George is his boyfriend. Don't worry, things get better.
  • Beta Couple: Corpse and Wilbur serve as this to Dream and George, with their relationship being (only slightly) more stable.
  • Brick Joke: Not only do we find out Karl's mum divorced his dad to marry Bad, we also find out George might have dated Bad before. In the Christmas special, George bakes a pie which he knows Bad will like. Karl asks why George knows what his dad likes.
  • Captain Obvious: After Dream runs away to work at Disneyland after a misunderstanding with George, George says that something is wrong.
George: guys this isnt where his heart lies... something is wrong
    Quackity: FUCKING OBVIOUSLY
  • Cast Full of Crazy: Just about every single character who appears in the story has at least a few screws loose.
  • Character Exaggeration: A large part of the fic's humor comes from exaggerating both the fanon and actual traits of its cast — for example, BadBoyHalo, generally regarded as one of the Team Dads of the Dream SMP, is made into Quackity's biological father, enters a relationship with Karl and Sapnap's moms, and apparently has at least 43 other children and aspirations to become "the next Genghis Khan".
  • Christmas Special: After the conclusion of the original thread, Mangoball made a second thread to serve as the Christmas Special.
  • Christmas Songs: During the Christmas special, Tommy puts out an entire album of Christmas songs, featuring collabs with the likes of Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift and (of course) a song about how Dream should be buried alive.
  • Crack Fic:
    • This fic is an infamous College AU Real-Person Fic in which Dream and GeorgeNotFound meet after the latter's boyfriend cheats on him with the former and they end up falling in love. While it sounds like a dime a dozen DreamNotFound fic at first, its popularity came about because of the highly bizarre nature of its characters and setting — from George giving Dream increasingly ridiculous pet names to Tommy's surprisingly popular anti-Dream spaces (capping off with the president of New Zealand joining them) to an otherwise dramatic scene getting interrupted by Corpse getting trapped in a running washing machine to pretty much everything related to Wilbur Soot.
    • The sequel — also a Christmas Special — is equally nuts; while the basic plot involves Dream, George, and their friends being forced to stay together after a surprise blizzard cancels their holiday travel plans, it also includes Tommy recording a Christmas album (including an anti-Dream song, of course), Wilbur breaking traffic laws on a sleigh pulled by wolves, Corpse becoming The Stoner, and Karl and Sapnap learning the hard way that BadBoyHalo is in a polyamorous relationship with their respective mothers.
  • Eskimos Aren't Real: Dream apparently doesn't believe England is real. However, given how the rest of the world is, it's possible that England actually doesn't exist in this continuity and is an imaginary location like Narnia.
Wilbur: No worries. george and i are just friends from England
Dream: Thats not a real country stop making stuff up
    Wilbur: Yes it is
Dream: no its not jts like narnia Shit the fuck up
  • Evil Laugh: Sapnap does one before breaking into the main characters' villa in Miami.
  • Fair-Weather Friend: Corpse is Dream's roommate and friend, but when Dream's mental state is in shambles and he locks himself in his room for two weeks straight without ever leaving, Corpse never checks up on him; he only does when Karl asks if Corpse is sure Dream is in there. Surpise, surprise, he isn't and has run off to Disneyland sometime within those two weeks, only leaving behind a note. Then, when they find Dream teaching yoga while in a Goofy suit, Corpse wants to leave him there because of how pathetic the sight is.
Corpse: honestly we can turn around and leave like is dream rly that important to any of us we barely know the guy
    Karl: ur his roommate
  • The Fool: George may be an idiot, but he's a kind one who's also lucky enough to get into college.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Wilbur. None of the main cast seem to like him and they all think he's weird. Justified as he's a criminal who unapologetically steals from people on a daily basis.
  • Genius Ditz: Implied with George. Despite not knowing that the plural of 'mouse' is 'mice', George tutors Comp Sci.
  • Hated by All: Sapnap. Although everyone in the cast seems to tolerate each other at best, Sapnap is outright disliked by everyone. When Dream asks who's in favour of beating Sapnap up, everyone is (including Sapnap himself). Justified because Sapnap is a Jerkass that refuses to recognise he cheated even after everyone has confirmed that he did.
  • High School AU: Befitting the primarily teenage to young adult audience of the Dream SMP fandom, most, if not all of the characters are in college/university in this Alternate Universe Fic.
  • I Banged Your Mom: Bad says he plans to sleep with Karl's mum once they get back from Disneyland. Turns out, he actually did since Karl's mum is getting married to him.
  • Identical Twin Mistake: George's 20th and 21st exes, a pair of twins, broke up with him because George thought he was dating just one guy.
  • In-Series Nickname: Karl is called "big dog". He's confused by it at first, but by the time the Disneyland arc rolls around, he's fully accepted it.
  • Love at First Sight: Dream falls in love with George when the latter posts a picture of himself even though they just met.
  • Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places: George. He has at least 30 exes, almost all of them ending in tragedy.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: At first, Bad seems like just another student at the college the rest of the cast attends. Then it's revealed that he's Quackity's father.
  • Mistaken for Insane: Zig-zagged with Karl. At first, it's played straight when the characters all agree that he's the craziest in their group, but then they backtrack later on to say that he's the most rational.
  • Mood Whiplash: Happens frequently; for example, a dramatic argument between George and Sapnap that ends with the latter kissing the former is interrupted by Corpse having to be rescued from a running washing machine.
  • No-Respect Guy: Karl. He's the most normal out of the entire main cast, yet his advice is constantly ignored.
  • Odd Friendship: Quackity is always brutally honest and indifferent to how his words affect others, while George is sensitive and avoids confrontation. Despite their opposing traits, they are close enough to consider each other best friends.
  • Older Than They Look: Bad is old enough to have 43 children around the globe (one of whom being old enough to go to college), but looks young enough that he can go to a college party without being questioned. But this might just be a normal thing in the college the characters go to.
  • Only Sane Man: Karl, Corpse, and Quackity all take their turns on the Sanity Ball, with Karl holding it the most often, Corpse holding it the most second, and Quackity holding it the least.
  • On the Rebound: At first, George thinks Dream's just a fuckbuddy he can use to get his mind off Sapnap. They have a full Relationship Upgrade later.
  • Pair the Dumb Ones: Dream and George. George is a Brainless Beauty and Dream often acts before he thinks, then when he does think, he usually just goes along with what George says.
George: what's the rush :( i kinda wanted to hang out at disney with my boyfriend
    Dream: you have a boyfriend?
Dream: i'm going to kill muself
Quackity: It's you. you two are so fucking stupid you deserve each other
  • Pretty Boy: George is this in spades. He's been in at least 30 relationships, 40 if you count the all-male acapella group he dated at the same time.
  • Profanity Police: Exaggerated with Bad. He threatens to kill everyone (including himself) after the other characters swear too much in his presence.
BadBoyHalo: Curse at me one more time and I will drive us off this clif effectively killing all of us
    Quackity: HELLO????
BadBoyHalo: I am so serious do not testMe right now I will blow this van up and cremate our bodies No one will ever find us
  • Puppy Love: Reportedly, George started dating when he was in kindergarten, and he's already gone through 7 partners before even reaching 6th grade.
  • Real Joke Name: Bad's legal name apparently really is BadBoyHalo.
Quackity: Is bad boy halo your government name
    Bad: Yes
  • Really Gets Around: Bad has 43 children around the globe and at least two of them are biological.
BadBoyHalo: Every day is beautiful when you have a family as big as mine I will be the next Genghis Khan.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: If Karl is to be believed, when Dream thinks George is in mortal danger, his eyes turn red and he begins to vibrate at a high frequency.
  • Running Gag: Tommy's increasingly popular anti-Dream business ventures, which start as Twitter spaces before escalating into podcasts and (in the sequel) a Christmas album.
  • School of No Studying: Subverted. The trope is played straight up until after the Disneyland arc, at which point the characters are reminded of their academics.
  • Serial Romeo: George has been in 46 relationships, Dream included.Click here to see how each relationship ended
  • Sexual Euphemism: Dream says that once George comes back from London, he'll make it feel like Christmas in bed every day.
    Dream: i'll be santa
Dream: you'll be my little elf...
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Dream and George constantly come up with nicknames for each other, always defend each other, and generally act so in love that they piss everyone else off.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Dream and Tommy; a Running Gag is Tommy undertaking various projects based around and named after the horrible fates he feels that Dream should suffer.
  • Social Media Before Reason: A given, considering most of the story is told through screenshots of social media. Still, it's hard not to notice how often they post about situations most wouldn't. This is lampshaded a couple of times by a few characters.
Karl: isn't it interesting how we keep ending up in situations where our only option to narrate our happenings is through text or tweeting :) almost like our lives are crafted to fit some kind of medium
  • "Success Through Sex" Accusation: Played for Laughs. Quackity constantly accuses George of sleeping with others. Justified, given the unlikely chance that someone like George could successfully pass a Comp Sci class.
  • Super Gullible: George would believe just about anything even if it's obviously not true. Corpse exploits this trait of George's to troll Dream.
  • Tempting Fate: The fic ends with George hoping that nothing crazy happens, immediately followed by Wilbur declaring that he has once again escaped from prison.
  • Troll: There's a couple moments when Corpse takes advantage of George's gullibility and tells him that Dream did something horrible. He's not out to actively ruin the relationship, it's just one of his usual responses whenever Dream's behavior annoys him.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Gender-Inverted Trope. Dream has on multiple occasions harmed people because he believed that they were hurting/upsetting George.
  • Wrong Guy First: The story starts with George and Sapnap together. They don't last long when Sapnap cheats on George.
  • You Called Me "X"; It Must Be Serious: In the Christmas special, when George is kidnapped by the FBI, he tries sending signals to his friends. One of the signals he sends is that instead of using an Affectionate Nickname for Dream (e.g. Dreamypop), he uses Dream's normal name.
Dream: fuck ur right the texts don't even seem like him? how did i not figure this out myself
Dream: he said "Hello Dream" instead of hello daddy dream or smth :(
