Seeds Of Chaos (Visual Novel)

Seeds of Chaos is a dark fantasy eroge in development at Ren'Py by Vénus Noire, published by TinyHat Studios. Its Early Access release was on January 31, 2020, with no set date for a final version.

The game follows Rowan, a soldier of low birth who stood out in the last Demon War, to the point of being recruited by Deanara, the living saint, to be part of her party to defeat the demon lord Karnas. This group of heroes confronted the villain in his castle Bloodmeen, and took his life, saving the Six Realms and putting an end to the war.

After the war ended, Rowan returns to his hometown and marries his childhood friend, Alexia, and has since lived in peace together. However, seven years later, fate ends up having other plans for Rowan and his wife when Jezera and Andreas, the half-demon bastard children of Karnas, appear, kidnapping his wife and massacre the village. Although our protagonist manages to escape, Jezera tells him he must go to Bloodomen alone if he wants to see his wife again before teleporting away. Despite trying to alert the kingdom of the attack and the new threat, his warnings only fall on deaf ears due to his low birth, forcing him to try to rescue Alexia alone, but fails and is captured by the Twins. In the castle's dungeon, Jezera explains why they attacked his village: to recruit him to help them conquer the Six Realms. If he refuses, Rowan and his wife will be killed.

With no other choice, he is forced to serve the very darkness he fought to destroy seven years ago.

This series provides examples of:

  • Almighty Janitor: Rowan is one of the six heroes who played a vital role in defeating Lord Karnas years ago, but these days he lives in his home village with his childhood sweetheart in peace.Knowing that he is far more competent than his low ranking suggests, Jezera attacks his village with the specific purpose of forcibly obtaining his services.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: A frequent plot point is that Rowan is looked down upon by the nobility for his low birth despite his achievements, and one of Jezera's main arguments to try to convince him to genuinely support her cause is that in her future reign he will be treated with the respect and status he deserves. It's up to the player to decide whether Rowan resents this or is relieved to be able to return to his humble beginnings.
  • Fanservice: Being an Adult Visual Novel, there's plenty of shots, during lewd and normal scenes, that are made to be sexually appealing.
  • Forced into Evil: Rowan starts the game in this position. It is up to the player to decide whether he will stay in this position, seek to sabotage the Twins or become a Villain Protagonist.
  • Guile Hero: Rowan is not gifted magically, and although a good combatant, he is nowhere close to being a One-Man Army. But he is perceptive, creative and skilled at taking advantage of the situation, so much so that he is considered a living legend by the Goblins, who call him “The Trickster” and it is precisely because of this quality that Jezera forces him to be The Dragon for her and her brother.
  • Interspecies Romance: Quite common within the plot. The birth of the Twins is the result of this and Rowan himself can engage in several romances with various non-humans if he wishes.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: It often happens during the story. Examples are when Rowan tries to protect Helayna from the Twins, which strains his marriage with Alexia, and Delane, who could suffer an even worse fate if the player chooses to try to save her.
  • The Power of Love: Discussed. Demons do not sire children among each other and although it is possible for them to have Half-Human Hybrid with mortals, this is considered a miracle that only happens once in a decade and only with demons of exceptional power. According to X'zaeratl, in order for a demon lord and a human to have children, they need to love each other and the reason the Twins were born was the result of that.
  • Stupid Evil: Downplayed. Despite being genuine powerful half-demons, that's what the Twins are at the end of the day. Andras, is more of a brute than a military general, preferring to engage in violent fights rather than bother making plans to win his battles and Jezera, even though more sensible than her bloodthirsty brother, is more of a seductress than a diplomat. If it weren't for Rowan being forced to give them good advice and prevent them from making worse decisions, everything indicates that the Twins would fail in their conquest plans due to their own inabilities.
  • Too Clever by Half: Unlike her brother, Jezera does have some smarts and a talent for plotting, but she is too arrogant about her own intelligence and prone to being impulsively violent when things don't go as she wants.
