Agreed, being competitive does not mean to do business at lowest price but then there is a very thin line & after that lowest turns Cheapest and the quality of service degrades. The equilibrium between services and cost is important to achieve but then it's a responsibility of both service users and the provider and not just the service provider.

Little things can affect your job application and what doesn't help is not updating your CV Some examples include; - Updating end date (particularly important when applying for interim roles) - Line management (if the role includes that and it's not on your CV unlikely you will get an interview against strong competition) - Systems experience (this might be high on the list for the hiring manager) - Location / Relocation (if you are not in a commutable distance but can relocate put it on your CV) - Contact information (yes daily I will see CVs that do not have telephone numbers or email addresses on them) Sounds simple doesn't it? It really is but yet I receive numerous applications that fall into this trap on a daily basis. None of these things take more than 1 minute to add onto a CV but it really could be the difference you need to get in front of the Hiring Manager. #financerecruitment #alexanderlloyd

I've had the opportunity to speak with a good number of new candidates in Private Credit over the past week or so, and there have been some interesting similarities.... ✍ More candidates are looking to move away from the "vanilla" direct lending strategy and get involved in the more interesting world of non-sponsored, special sits or opportunistic strategies. ✍ Candidates are focussed on what value their recent deal experiences will carry over the next few years, looking to identify the trends and what is likely to be in demand in the future. 💵 Cash is still king... flexible working arrangements barely come in to the conversation any more. The main concerns are compensation, investment strategy and the investment committee's appetite to get deals done! What else is important to you?

New Visa rules are putting politics ahead of growth "Here in London, the move comes as our latest research indicates that half of employers are struggling to fill vacancies. Just another level 4 qualified aspiring financial planner WITH relevant experience. And just another conversation about leaving the profession because of the lack of opportunity. This isn't an isolated thing either. This is my second such conversation in little over a week. And these are really good people I'm speaking to. Motivated. Genuinely passionate about financial planning. Qualified (often off their own back). People with the attitude and character everyone says they value, the soft skills to make it as a financial planner. And they're going to sack it off. They might not mean it. They might be sounding off. If I was a betting man I wouldn't count against it as they've probably come too far to stop now. But I'm not a betting man because the risks outweigh the positives. And right now the financial planning profession is taking a lot of risks. Because given where we're at putting off the next generation before they get started doesn't sound sensible to me. They were good in the interview, I don't know what I missed... Have you or your team been a victim of interview charm? This is what a Sales Leader of a growing Finance company said when we met earlier this year. It's extremely hard to understand someone's attitudes or behaviours from a CV & interview because they are intangible. But for many roles, what makes someone succeed in a position is these intangibles. The first thing we did was work with the hiring team to gather information so we could define what type of person would be successful in this role. This involved: • Review of top performers for working style, personality and characteristics. • Review of common challenges faced in the role and historic poor fits. • Review of common behaviours across the company that lead to performance. • Review of the role and responsibilities and identify thinking and communication styles that would suit the type of work they’re doing. The economy IS turning a corner When you read reports in the press that say 'slower UK salary growth paves way for more interest rate cuts', that has to be a sign that the market is on the turn. According to research by KPMG and the REC published last week, wage growth eased and demand for workers steadied in July. The permanent staff salary index fell to 56.5 in July from 57.1 in June. Still way above the 50-point threshold for growth. The temporary salary index dropped to 50.9 from 53.7 in the same period. It explains why so many recruiters have experienced tougher times this year and this is mirrored in the financial reports of our quoted staffing businesses. What though is encouraging, is that analysts expect the UK economy to pick up momentum as the year progresses which could prompt companies to increase recruitment to meet higher demand. In fact, the Bank of England this month raised its GDP growth forecast for 2024 from 0.5% to 1.25%. And from where I personally sit, I note that things are already happening. Staffing firms, in general, are no longer cutting headcount and certainly since July, have begun to hire again. Some in quite large numbers. The consensus amongst the many owner managers and senior directors of staffing businesses that I regularly talk to, is that the pick up will be noticeable from Q4 and they are scaling up now to take advantage of an improved economy. The question though is whether your staffing business is in a position to take advantage of a greater number of opportunities. After the 4th July holidays what will we see in the #professionalservices jobs market? After 18 months of tough trading for many professional services firms there are definate signs of recovery as margins are improving, utilization rates are moving back into line with targets. 2022 was a year of cost-cutting - we saw some of the major firms making signififcant cuts to the workforce in some cases over 10% to ensure costs were managed. 2023 is a year of optimization - after agreesive lay-offs in 2022 this activity has slowed as businesses re-size and prepare to return to growth in 2024. The second half of the year will see a mobilization of senior talent to position ambitious firms for growth, I do not see strong hiring at the Manager/Senior Manager level until the end of the year but executive hiring is certainly seeing an uplift. Firms who wait until customer demand has fully returned will likley miss the post-slump bounce. There are a number of consulting firms with recent PE investment looking to capitalize on attracting top tier talent from the likes of MBB/Big4/Accenture who remain cautious and are holding back Partner/MD level promotions leaving talent exposed to offers.
