The former Bethlehem Lutheran Church in its new location in Toogoolawah, 2005

The origin of the name is from the Ugarapul word meaning flying squirrel gully.[2]

Bethlehem Lutheran Church opened on 19 April 1871.[6] A new church was built on 20 April 1898. The church closed circa 1938.[7][8] It was on a 2-acre (0.81 ha) land parcel (Lot/Plan 307CH31367) now within a mine site (27°39′39″S 152°39′38″E / 27.66072°S 152.66050°E / -27.66072; 152.66050 (Bethlehem Lutheran Church (former))).[9] In 1940, the church building was relocated to Toogoolawah to reopen as the Cornerstone Lutheran Church.[10]
