Mogadishu military academy bombing

On 24 July 2023 an al-Shabaab suicide bomber killed about 25 soldiers at a Jaalle Siad military academy in Mogadishu, Somalia.[1]
Background
[edit]Jihadist group al-Shabaab began an insurgency in 2006, attempting to overthrow the internationally backed Somali government and impose a severe form of Sharia law. It controls parts of rural Somalia.[1] Its attacks include many against military, political and civilian targets, often in the country's capital city, Mogadishu.[1]
Bombing
[edit]On 24 July 2023, an al-Shabaab suicide bomber killed about 25 soldiers at a military academy in Mogadishu.[1] Later the same day, al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.[1]
