Sexual assault
[edit]I removed the Sexual assault on Hilarie Burton section but was reverted by The lorax. I removed the section for two reasons: 1.) WP:UNDUE and 2.) because it was sourced to People.com. Now, I understand there numerous reliable sources popping up covering the incident but does it warrant inclusion on the BLP, let alone its own subsection? Let's discuss. Meatsgains (talk) 15:19, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
- I think it does warrant inclusion, based on coverage and Affleck's acknowledgment, but I think the previous version needs editing to describe the accurate claim and statements, rather than using descrptions and offenses that are not verifiable. Golta (talk) 16:21, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
- As wrong as he was to grope her—we can all agree on that—it only came into the conversation recently as a form of whataboutism in regards to his admonishment of Harvey Weinstein. He apologized (informally, in my opinion) and to be honest I don't think it requires being put into his wikipedia article unless we also talk about that video from the Anne-Marie Losique press junket that is being taken wildly out of context as groping. That was not only consensual but it was planned. Her words, not mine.Trillfendi (talk) 01:58, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
- How's this for a compromise? We mention it at the bottom of his personal life section.--The lorax (talk) 14:54, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
- Comment I am leaning towards not including, especially at this delicate moment. Allow time to gain more perspective and comply with WP:PERSISTENCE and WP:RECENT. If it continues to draw significant coverage from reputable sources over time, we could consider including it under a proper section. The incident, which in itself would be treated as WP:BLPGOSSIP at the time it happened, got blown up overnight as a result of the Weinstein scandal. Its inclusion would not only violate WP:SENSATION but also risk victimizing Hilarie Burton, who herself did not seek any public apology. Keep in mind, it is a featured biography of living people, which requires a high degree of sensitivity. Any inclusion of such incident would be used as examples for writing other BLPs. Artoasis (talk) 00:56, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
- Agreed - let's give it some time since it can be assumed this arose as a result of the Weinstein scandal. If additional reliable sources continue to cover the incident, then we can mention it in the personal life section. Meatsgains (talk) 18:36, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
Information belongs on page. I even adjusted mistakes the other user made. The video showing the incident is even sourced as well.JoetheMoe25 (talk) 15:23, 27 October 2017 (UTC)
- Please read the above comments first. Artoasis (talk) 03:22, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
Why does the article mention Burton's incident but not Anne-Marie Losique's? It can mention she commented it was consensual, but it was still in the news. [1][2][3] -85.250.83.116 (talk) 09:32, 15 October 2021 (UTC)
- Why mention a rumor only to clarify that it's untrue? Seems iffy --Popeye191 (talk) 18:00, 15 October 2021 (UTC)
Sexual misconduct and TFA
[edit]Wow. Imagine my surprise to see that a man who admitted to sexual misconduct and was questioned about it on Colbert yesterday, was listed as the featured article. Even more surprising was that when I clicked on the article, there was no mention of the allegations against him and any references to the controversy had been scrubbed. Frankly, I've read the discussion above and I don't follow the rationale that because the allegations surrounding Affleck were revealed during the discussion of Harvey Weinstein, they shouldn't be included in the former's article. They exist, have been covered in dozens of reliable third-party sources, and should have been added before the article was featured. I'm at work right now so I can't make the edits myself until later, but it seems to me that there was a breakdown in the WP FA process somewhere. Affleck's article is very clearly incomplete and should have been removed from the FA queue when these allegations were made public. TritonsRising (talk) 23:19, 17 November 2017 (UTC) (edited TritonsRising (talk) 00:46, 18 November 2017 (UTC))
- Agree, the incident with Hilarie Burton, with Affleck groping her breasts without consent deserves to be mentioned in this article, especially after Stephen Colbert confronted him about the incident on his show.--The lorax (talk) 22:04, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
- Why is it relevant to this section to include a picture of the incident? Is it supposed to serve as proof that he did indeed grope her? Because I personally don't see any groping, or breast tweaking or grabbing, whatever you want to call it, in that picture. Does anyone else? On the opposite, it only shows him giving her a hug, with his hand around her shoulders and her laughing. And neither does the actual video on Yuotube show any actual groping, so how about being fair and unbiased and sticking with only presenting facts, instead of personal assumptions and interpretation? What is really important, that absolutely HAS TO BE included, is to clarify the inaccuracy and/or exaggeration of her claim because that she wasn't a "kid" at the time, in the sense that she wasn't a child or a minor. Miss Burton was 21 years old at the time, which made her a legal adult. That's a big distinction and it's necessary to be noted. Anyone reading the article might get the false impression. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.106.22.231 (talk) 13:55, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Under the Personal Life of Ben Affleck, the "TRL Incident" should be changed to "Sexual Assault Allegations" because there is more than one accusation.
This should be added under that section:
A makeup artist, Annamarie Tendler, came forward alleging Affleck grabbed her butt at a party after the 71st Golden Globe Awards.[1][2] 2001:8003:65D3:B400:7D3C:7A22:6484:776C (talk) 21:20, 17 December 2017 (UTC)
- Done but I made a few changes. I dropped "Sexual" and the section is now just called "Assault allegations" because the word sexual is extremely contentious. See WP:BLP for more. I also changed "butt" to "behind" because the word "butt" in this case isn't really encyclopedic. I dropped the Daily Mirror reference because the AOL one pretty much covers this and we're moving away from using British tabloids as sources. Thank you for doing this work; please have a look at the edit and let me know if there are any issues. CityOfSilver 17:35, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
- Annamrie Tendler put out a tweet, she didn't make a formal sexual assault allegation and she has since not elaborated on it. Since when is a "tweet" considered a sexual assault allegation? Based on what exactly? And what decides if it is relevant enough to be considered or mentioned in a person's biography? And if you are going to make a reference to it, at least include the exact wording of the claim, don't make your own interpretation about a serious issue like this. In the same tweet, she also claimed that in the moment, he made it out to be an accident, while trying to move her out of the way. But then she also says, she didn't say anything at the time. It sounded very contradictory and confusing and of questionable veracity, and since there is no further elaboration, it might have been indeed been accident and Ms. Tendler had the wrong impression. Considering Ben never responded to it and it didn't receive enough attention in the media from reputable sources, what is the point of mentioning this? To detail everything that has been said on the internet about Ben Affleck? I can tweet sth tomorrow about him, will it make it a sexual assault allegation? Is it going to be mentioned on his bio the next day? Ridiculous. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.73.142.212 (talk) 20:25, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
- Unsubstantiated means unverified. It's a claim made on twitter, with no verification from reporters, no further response from any side, and no follow-up stories of any sorts. Its inclusion violates WP:PERSISTENCE as well as WP:BLP. Artoasis (talk) 01:32, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

Ben Affleck's relationship with his nanny Christine Ouzounian is not present in the article under the relationships header, despite being a major scandal at the time. While it was not the cause for their divorce, Jennifer Garner has since acknowledged that the incident occurred and how it affected her children to no longer have their nanny[1]. Connection between Mr. Affleck and "Heinrich Boldt"
[edit]Mr. Affleck's ancestry contains the following sentence
- ".....Affleck's maternal great-great grandfather, Heinrich Boldt, who, aged 12, accidentally discovered the Curmsun Disc, emigrated from Prussia in the late 1840s.[376][377]...."
While it is totally correct and absolutely proven that Mr. Affleck's maternal great-great grandfather is a man who emigrated from Prussia to the US anytime before 1850 with the -at least partly- anglicized name, Henry Boldt, it is not proven at all, that this "Henry Boldt" is identical with the said-to-be "Henry Boldt / Heinrich Boldt" who "accidentally discovered the Curmsun Disc". --BorEliz20 (talk) 13:21, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
I'm afraid to say, but both sources cited for the statement in question above are quite far from being considered reliable when it comes to the circumstances about how the Curmsun Disc was discovered in the 1840s. For years already the story is told in -to some extent- frequently changing variations without providing any reliable, profound, original sources to prove it. --BorEliz20 (talk) 15:53, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
- Maybe update the Curmsun Disc wikipedia page to make it consistent with this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.218.110.117 (talk) 01:46, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
- I've just updated the English Curmsun Disc wikipedia page as follows:
- ...(actor Ben Affleck's said-to-be maternal great-great grandfather; for many years already profound evidence for this statement is missing)...
- The referenced "Heinrich Bold" (Mr. Affleck's real maternal ancestor) was married to our direct ancestor/family member, Eliza Luttich, a family which I've been researching in significant detail for many years already. And despite all efforts Heinrich Bold's German/Prussian place of origin could not be determined so far.
- And again whether "our" "Heinrich Bold" is identical with the "Heinrich Bold" -the said-to-be finder of the Curmsun disc- is not proven at all!BorEliz20 (talk) 14:48, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- I've just updated the English Curmsun Disc wikipedia page as follows:
- Meantime the said-to-be and profound evidence lacking connection between Mr. Affleck and "Heinrich Boldt" has been removed from the English Curmsun Disc wikipedia page.BorEliz20 (talk) 20:37, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
The deleted / removed sentence
- ".....Affleck's maternal great-great grandfather, Heinrich Boldt, who, aged 12, accidentally discovered the Curmsun Disc, emigrated from Prussia in the late 1840s.[376][377]...."
is back! And I really wonder why that is the case since the new provided source, a just published book titled "The Viking King's Golden Treasure" does NOT provide any profound evidence for this statement.BorEliz20 (talk) 12:24, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
Given names of Mr. Affleck's mother
[edit]The section Early Life contains the following sentence:
....His mother, Christopher Anne "Chris" Boldt,[6] was a Harvard-educated elementary school teacher.....
The first given name of Mr. Affleck's mother is NOT: Christopher - that's a male given name only.
Instead her first given name is: Christine (shortened form: Chris)
Full name: Christine Anne Boldt Affleck
--BorEliz20 (talk) 15:53, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- Incredulous as it sounds, the cited article here says her full name is, indeed, Christopher. Maybe her parents were Bohemian. Crboyer (talk) 16:00, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but her parents were neither Bohemians, nor is the content of the cited article correct. --BorEliz20 (talk) 10:01, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- I said MAYBE Bohemian. And do you have an article that states her name being Christine?Crboyer (talk) 15:57, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
Affleck as Batman in the intro
[edit]I am aware that in the intro it says he appeared in Batman v. Superman and Justice League but shouldn't we say that he's played the superhero Batman in the lead? Also shouldn't we also add the Snyder Cut into the lead since he did shot additional footage for the film and The Flash? His involvement in the Flash also goes unnoticed in the career section about his Batman role. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 04:04, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
- I agree that his role in the superhero movies should be mentioned; I've added Batman role to the lede. Personally, I don't think an additional scene in a director's cut merits inclusion in the lede but I added it to the most recent Career section. (Information about his potential role in The Flash is already in the most recent paragraph of the Career section.)Popeye191 (talk) 20:13, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

Change the current image of Ben Affleck at SDCC 2017 to his latest appearance at The Tender Bar premiere in late 2021. I think it would be best to update the image as during that time he was suffering from alcoholism and divorce.

Should it be Géza or Geza in his infobox?
[edit]I am not saying that this is a big issue here, but if Ben was born before 1986 (the year California made English their official language and banned diacritics in their naming laws), would it be appropriate to include the "é" in his middle name "Géza" in his infobox since special characters weren't specifically banned in the state of California at the time that he was born in 1972. Also, I looked at Gwen Stefani's Wikipedia page since she has a special character (é) in her middle name, "Renée," and the fact that she was born in California in 1969. In Gwen's infobox, it says "Gwen Renée Stefani," not "Gwen Renee Stefani." There's no footnote next to her name saying, "Naming laws in California do not allow special letters with accents (é)," so would it be appropriate to change Ben's middle name in his infobox from "Geza" to "Géza" and remove the footnote "Naming laws in California do not allow special letters with accents (é)" in Ben's infobox or am I missing something here? Let me know if it should be changed or not. Thanks. Ccai2053 (talk) 04:09, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

In the wake of Jennifer Lopez filing for divorce, "sources close to Jennifer Lopez" have placed a number of negative stories about Ben Affleck in the tabloid press, and I'm seeing a number of those tabloid stories cited in this Wikipedia article. Some of the details referenced are outright false. A few examples of what I'm seeing here:
- "Less than a month after filing for divorce, they were spotted kissing and holding hands." - The source cited is Page Six, specifically an "anonymous source" who reported seeing them kissing and holding hands. Neither Page Six nor the anonymous source quoted in it are encyclopedia-quality citations and should be removed.
- "In August 2024, it was reported that he was linked with Kathleen "Kick" Kennedy, a daughter of Robert Kennedy Jr. However, despite confirmation that they had been seeing each other since June 2024, a rep for Affleck denied reports that Affleck and Kennedy were dating." - The two sources cited are Yahoo aggregating Page Six; there was no "confirmation" from any official source that the two were ever seeing each other. Affleck's rep said in an official statement to People that the story was untrue. None of the Kick Kennedy information should be on this page.
- "In her divorce papers which were filed in August 2024, Jennifer Lopez stated that Affleck tended to have "erratic mood swings." No, she didn't. Lopez's official divorce filing makes no mention of "erratic mood swings." The citation is an anonymous source speaking to People.
- "According to Lopez, Affleck could go from 'being incredibly happy and warm — the best light that emanated from him' to exhibiting 'the deepest, darkest behavior.'" This is untrue as well. Lopez did not make these statements; an anonymous source did, in People. This is not encyclopedic.
All four of these references should be removed and the page should be placed under additional protection to prevent further vandalism. 142.114.116.201 (talk) 18:38, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
- Done Yeah, I can't find fault with any of this. The Page Six stuff is poorly sourced gossip, there was no confirmation of a relationship with Kennedy, and the source said nothing about the divorce papers or Lopez herself making those statements about Affleck. I've added this article to my watchlist and will keep an eye out for more of this kind of thing. DrOrinScrivello (talk) 16:28, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
