Neglected Musicals

NEGLECTED MUSICALS is a theatre initiative dedicated to presenting musical theatre that has never (or rarely) been seen in Australia.

Presented with scripts in hand, and with piano accompaniment after one day's rehearsal. Founded by Michelle Guthrie in 2010, 22 musicals have been presented over the past 11 years. Over 400 creatives and actors have been part of the experience.

Starting with No Way To Treat A Lady in march 2010 at Darlinghurst Theatre Neglected Musicals has gone on to present many musicals. Some of the many accomplishments have been securing the rights to the original 1930 production of Girl Crazy in July 2010. Convincing Richard Maltby Jr and eventually Arthur Laurents to provide the script and score of Nick & Nora for a presentation in 2011, the musical had not been staged since its Broadway run.

Starring Virginia Gay, the 2016 presentation CALAMITY JANE went on to have a full season at Hayes Theatre Co presented by One Eyed Man Productions in association with Neglected Musicals in March – April 2017 before touring Australia in 2018 & 2019  to Riverside Theatres , Orange Civic Theatre, Illawarra Performing Arts Centre , Arts Centre Melbourne, Canberra Theatre Centre and is part of the 2018 Belvoir Season before closing in Melbourne at the Comedy Theatre. Richard Carroll's production went on to win many Sydney Theatre Awards.
