Empress Dowager Cixi

I would have had no objections if you only edited the text without removing some of Cixi's historical images which are of valuable high quality. It can do no harm to leave them on the article, why did you remove them? Highshines 03:33, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Summary Request

I have noted that you often edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky or even vandalizing. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Cixi

Hi, thanks for all your work on Cixi, the article looks much better now. I have tried to normalize the spelling of names to reflect common English usage and get rid of some pictures, the latter with moderate succcess. As you may have noticed, Highshines and his her sock-puppets have started to change names back to where they were before the clean-up, so we need to remain vigilant and check his/her edits.--Niohe 12:48, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

70 vs. 100 years after author's death

Hi. Is there a rule that we must only use works if at least 100 years have passed since the author's death? I thought 70 years were enough – why else would we have {{PD-old-70}}? I'm asking because I've uploaded copies of scans of photographs by Felice Beato, who allegedly probably only died about 99 years ago. Wikipeditor 05:52, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No idea. I assume this question is in reference to one of the Highshines photos where I probably left a comment. If that was the case, then it was simply because Highshines marked the photo as "Public Domain - Artist's life + 100 years". A quick check of one photo shows the copyright label has been changed to something different, making my comments no longer relevant. Ka-ru 06:20, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Saiō

Thanks so much for your work on Saiō. It's a bit awkward to explain why I enjoyed this article so much.

For reasons too complicated to explain here, I've found myself extraordinarily focused on the integration of a 17th century Japanese chronicle into the texts of relevant 21st-century Wikipedia rticles. In this project, I've been spending an inordinate amount of time cross-referencing two comparable 13th-century and and 14th-century Japanese texts as a way of establishing a plausible context and a verifiable confirmation for serial edits. It was an unexpected pleasure to encounter a situation in which the Meiwa municipal government provided that very same kind of context and confirmation.

In addition, your personal snapshots helped made this project come alive in a way that left me grinning rather foolishly. Strange, I know ..., but there you have it. In this instance, I guess it makes sense to invite you to accept my edits as a curious token of appreciation. Why not?--Ooperhoofd (talk) 22:00, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Katherine Carl

Your supposed painting by Katherine Carl is actually by Herbert Vos and is at Harvard Museums. Carl's two portraits are at the Summer Palace, Beijing and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC. The Jezabels

Hi Ka-Ru. Just wanted to say a quick thanks for starting the article on The Jezabels. I was wanting to create one for ages but did not have the confidence or know how to make a page from fresh. So your initial page really got me started in terms of my Wikipedia career hehe. As you can see it's come along way since you first set it going in February. I'm a big fan of The Jezabels and although I am somewhat new to editing on Wikipedia, I have made a large number of contributions to their article. I happen to think it's pretty good, however some detractors (ie User:Duffbeerforme) seem to disagree and believe it is still lacking in verifiable sources. I guess he kind of has a point, but he was a bit of a douche in making it. If you have the desire or the time maybe you could add some contributions to this page that was your creation. For example, I know that one the genres that The Jezabels can be classified as is definately Indie Rock, however I cannot find any secondary sources that say so. The only ones I can find are blogs or their own website. So yeah, thanks again for creating the article on The Jezabels, a great Australian band. Here's hoping that they go places. Ise Grand Shrineの追記について

Ise Grand Shrineに、Hinokuma Shrine (日前神宮・國懸神宮)について記述しましたが、なぜだめなのでしょうか? 日本語版の http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E4%BC%8A%E5%8B%A2%E7%A5%9E%E5%AE%AE にある 「神階が授与されたことのない神社の一社」と 「脚注 4 ^ 神宮で神階が無いのは、伊勢神宮と日前神宮、國懸神宮の3宮だけである。」 にも記述されている内容です。 神階については http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%A5%9E%E9%9A%8E にありますが、英語版にはないようです。

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! I think I'm done with Wikipedia...

I don't understand things sometimes. I'm tired of having people with no idea of an article that I've done a lot of research into, come along and, having read one piece of text from one site, want to change everything. I can list out dozens of sources, but it's all ignored. I thought that was the point of research. I've recently seen changes to parts of the wiki that I know are wrong. The result is that people wanting to find info on certain topics are going to find it harder to find them. The irony is that the whole changes were kicked off based on wanting to change the name of an article. In the end, that name was never added to anything, yet now all the related articles have been renamed and messed up.
