Moops, I highly suggest you stop WP:BLUDGEONing in the AFD. It is not a good look and can get you in a lot of trouble. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:28, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Moops. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Jon Hartley, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Moops. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Moops|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. SmartSE (talk) 10:19, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Blablubbs: I'm really curious -- why isn't sockpuppetry detected earlier? Does it normally take an entire year? How does this work? Nythar (💬-❄️) 16:43, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Moops, I'm really disappointed in seeing this checkuser block. I hope you wait a sufficient amount of time, log into your original account and post an unblock request. I won't review it myself but in it I hope you can offer an honest explanation for this. Liz Read! Talk! 02:35, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see you have been socking regularly with User:Firefly115 so this is a current issue, not just block evasion with your older accounts. So sad. Liz Read! Talk! 02:59, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly crazy how many long-time editors are found to be socks. It's quite sad. Nonetheless, thank you for your past help to this website. Assuming it's on the table later on, I would definitely take the standard offer. 47.227.95.73 (talk) 11:29, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm very much of the same opinion. Crazy. Schminnte (talk contribs) 11:33, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Moops, too bad (that you had to do this and too bad you were caught, you do good work). Please consider editing, say, simple Wikipedia for six months (they need proficient editors there too) and then come back and ask for the standard. You have close to 20,000 edits as Moops, a nice run. Consolidating all your socks, except those lost in the laundry, into one account, as Moops or another - although those 20,000 edits favors Moops? - and coming back to edit again will grow the project. Your fly will fly the entire time! p.s. just noticed, where is the fly? Randy Kryn (talk) 11:40, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe he left in shame Dronebogus (talk) 11:43, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Or maybe roving the Riveria with Moops and their Picasso money. Moops, did that Picasso group pay you? Honesty best policy (except for IAR), and, importantly, if you did get paid then Atsme must identify as a manatee and eat combinations of 60 forms of freshwater and saltwater plants and I, for one, would like her assessment of which seasalad turns out to be the best. Salvio giuliano removed all of the extras in this edit. As for Moops socking, I was crushed to learn of it, as are Tryp, Liz & Randy. Would our efforts have helped him turn a new leaf? My crystal ball is about as dependable as an online Magic 8 ball. I am aware that Moops is on vacation (or so he advised me) until the 10th (tomorrow), and that he will be away from his computer, which explains his absence. He also adamantly stated that he has no COI. I did not think to ask if he was socking–we're supposed to AGF, unless there is good reason to do otherwise. *sigh* Atsme 💬 📧 16:13, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Atsme, I had been in contact with Moops after the AfD close. Noticing his absence, I had assumed a Wikibreak so sent an email to console them. I am similarly saddened and confused. Schminnte (talk contribs) 16:24, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am also crushed to learn of Moops' socking, though I"ve refrained from interacting any further here per WP:DENY, which, while it's normally for trolls and vandals, I also extend to socks unless I see a reason to do otherwise (such as if I see potential for the user to learn from socking). ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 16:24, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also shocked to hear of Moops' socking... *sigh* I hope you have a valid reason for this.. ;'( Layah50♪ ( 話して~! ) 16:47, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

glad to hear that no COI involved...or at least admitted. As for socks, if the socks didn't help each other in discussions or cutting in line at the WikiCafeteria (try the bean burgers) I guess I don't think they're a big deal, especially when all of them have large edit counts and well over 99% non-reverts, which is why I'm not an admin and actually run in the opposite direction when I see one (in the cafeteria). A full explanation would be nice though - the games afoot? multiple personalities? persona changes according to your mood? - and glad you still have talk page access. Randy Kryn (talk) 03:37, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, you heard back from Moops? And also, what's at the WIkiCafeteria? Meh burgers? McDonald's french fries? Tails Wx 04:00, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Back to my computer after being away...

[edit]

I just got back today, as I did inform some other users, I apparently picked a marvelous time to go on a quick vacation, and one in which I 'disconnected' completely. I did not bring my computer with me and did not want to have any stress of any kind as I travelled. I am back now and am just catching up with everything. It is going to take me some time to review everything, as I do not like to react until I understand exactly what is going on, and frankly, I am dizzy reading all of this. I will refrain from naming users below, out of respect, in the event that it somehow tarnishes their reputation.

Here are the facts as I understand them at a glance, but please bear with me as I work to read through my mountain of emails and messages:

  • 1. I am being accused of UPE. Which is absurd, I have never taken payment for the creation of a single article in my entire life. Not Menē Inc., or any other page. Sure would be nice though!
  • 2. I see every new page I created was deleted. Okay. If you think you are stopping a case of UPE. You are not. This is just sad.
  • 3. I am being accused of sock-puppetry. Maybe I have been close to 'canvassing' before in some instances. That is a problem I can avoid going forward. I am sorry for having reached out to anyone before on articles I created. I do believe that my actions in this manner bordered on, maybe even crossed the line, from appropriate to inappropriate. One user warned me about this, and he was right. I should have listened. I have great respect for this user, even now when it seems they do not trust me at this time.
  • 4. My talk page: teacup, Edward Pennington the fly, and my bouncing globe were all wonderful. If we were to remove the bouncing globe... fine, but not Edward! Don't let him get caught up in any silliness that might be my fault. If someone could please restore those, I think they brought smiles to some editors faces. I try to bring some levity to WP. Several editors may be aware that I have mentioned my neurodivergence previously, and I do think that I can go overboard on all kinds of things, but I promise I mean no harm. I wouldn't hurt a fly. :)
  • 5. That is literally it. I need to read more to find out what else I might have been accused of, but this is my up-to-date understanding as of March 10th, 2023. I see the other editor that was wrapped up in this seems to have been driven to quit completely. If that is what the community wants of me as well, then I guess I will leave you all be.

TY kindly. All of you. Moops T 18:42, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The CU will disagree with you sock. Th78, you know what you have to do. Take the standard offer and request you be unblocked. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 21:13, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Both Th78blue and Pulpfiction621. Three accounts (minimum), including Moops. --Tryptofish (talk) 22:16, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Throw in Firefly115! Tails Wx 22:22, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, thanks. Given the talk here about the standard offer, it's necessary to keep in mind that this is a checkuser block. It cannot be overturned via the typical ways that other unblocks happen; that can happen only with approval by the checkusers or ArbCom. --Tryptofish (talk) 22:45, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think I understand how you feel, and I empathize. Please take some time to think about everything. It's better not to write anything for a while. —Alalch E. 21:44, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sad thing to learn about this, I really respected you as a user, while I'm not going to go too deep into the socks, I hope they are just a misunderstanding, and you didn't use them abusively. ~With regards. See the originally blocked accounts being used in an attempt to create an illusion of support in an RfD, to understand how this is not a misunderstanding of any sort: Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2022 August 17#AnCap Dave Smith. —Alalch E. 00:29, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It’s sock-ception! Dronebogus (talk) 13:51, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Moops (I'll call him Moops, who has had a good run) ran a sock farm nearly as well-known as the 2019 Boston North American Conference Sockpuppet play, and did so for a yet-unexplained reason. He didn't need to, as each of his socks, every one, has an over 99% edit-retention rate. Moops, in total, has been a good Wikipedia editor who enjoys playing several roles at once. His main sin was that doubling-up at the RfD linked above - aside from that I'd suggest he be forgiven and allowed to edit under a single-account with Edward's company. But alas, a one toke-over-the-line (watch the Lawrence Welk Show band and one of the singers try not to laugh, and Welk's clueless comment - or is it? - as the song concludes) tag-team edit is enough for a ban. I truly hope, and I'd assume the editors at Simple Wikipedia would hope, that Moops will leave this site for six months and then come back to ask forgiveness and roam the fields of the Lord again. He will be missed, but welcomed back, hopefully, with open arms and a feast of plenty at some point. Randy Kryn (talk) 14:26, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

information Administrator note - can I gently suggest that this discussion has run its course, and further posts are not necessary. Thanks, firefly ( t · c ) 18:23, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
