Sanauli

I think that we have a problem at Sanauli. I have tided it up a bit (see my edit summaries in the article history) but I am very concerned that there may be copyright violations of the ASI web page here. You really do need to write things in your own words, and merely changing the odd word here and there does not get round the problem. Can you resolve this? - Sitush (talk) 11:10, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

In most cases,I rewrite the matter, but as you observed, sometimes, changing a word here and there has happened,(particularly, with the information collected from ASI site, in the background of it being a Govt. organisation) which I think, I can resolve, by rephrasing the sentance and context. It is very good observation by you! Thank you.Rayabhari (talk) 11:59, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
It is always better to rewrite, even if you know that the content is "public domain". In the case of ASI, yes, I am aware that India's copyright laws can be fairly liberal with regard to info produced by government bodies, but I really wouldn't risk it. In particular, there is a copyright notice at the end of the page, and Wikipedia is subject to the copyright laws in the USA, not India, because that it where the servers are based. Rewriting prevents any arguments! - Sitush (talk) 12:53, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
ok. i will rewrite. thank you.Rayabhari (talk) 15:06, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

New Edits : Malwan

I have today developed Malwan,Gujarat srate, which was a blank page, having been merged with Malvan, a differrent site located in Maharastra. Can you kindly review Malwan and give feedback. Thank you.Rayabhari (talk) 15:06, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Will do but it might take a while longer. My uncle died a few hours ago and I need to sort out some things because my mother is too upset. - Sitush (talk) 19:59, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
So sorry to hear that. When you feel free, pl glance my article, and it is perfectly OK. I apologise, for bothering you regarding my edits, at this juncture.
Thanks. I've taken a quick run through it and, hey, you are picking up the cite thing very well. Got to dash but will leave some notes here later. - Sitush (talk) 17:50, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
thank you. Rayabhari (talk) 05:03, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay, and I'll be gone again over this weekend. This edit by me is the one that introduces something new. You used the |first and |last parameters of the template but when the author is an institution that tends to mess up the way the thing is displayed. Hence, I converted it to use the |author parameter instead.

Do you know how to step through someone's edits using the article history? - Sitush (talk) 12:15, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Thank you.I will try to follow such citation.<Do you know how to step through someone's edits using the article history?> no idea, what is it.
It is incredibly useful but I am not good at explaining it. There is an article here, of which the first couple of sections might just make sense. I'll drop a note with someone else and ask if they can pop over and perhaps talk you through it. The thing is, you would be able to run through all of my changes to your contributions at Malwan and raise any queries that you might have. I really do encourage you to ask questions etc.

By the way, there was something else I wanted to comment on re: your edits there but I am a bit scatterbrained at the moment. Whatever it was, it must have been minor! It will come back to me. - Sitush (talk) 12:37, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Just jumping in to help out explaining what article history is and how it can be useful. Firstly, can I recommend a gadget to help you out? The "Navigation Popups" gadget is something I find really useful when I'm browsing contributions, be it under a history tab or any other list of contributions. It allows you to see the "diff" (or difference between revisions) by just hovering over a link. To enable it, just go to Preferences → Gadgets, select Navigation Popups and save.
Now, the history tab. This is accessible at the top of each page, by clicking on "View History". On the article in question, it will take you to this page. You can see the summary of every edit which has been made on the page (but has not been deleted). Each change should look like this
The links will show you useful information.
  1. "cur" will show you the differences between that edit and the current state of the page.
  2. "prev" will show you the difference between that edit and the previous one (what is done in that edit)
  3. The time and date will show you what the page looks like at the end of that revision
  4. The name of the editor links to his userpage, talk page and list of contributions.
  5. The size of the page, and the size of the corresponding change
  6. The area of the page being editted and the "edit summary" associated with it.
If you were to look through Sitush's edits, clicking on "prev" for each one (or hoverring over, if you use the gadget), then you will be able to see his changes. Hope that helps. If you've any questions, please do ask. WormTT(talk) 13:20, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Ok. That was fine. Thank you.

By the by, what is typofixing? Anything we can do at the time of editing, itself?Rayabhari (talk) 05:44, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

A "typo" ("typographical error") is most commonly seen when people transpose their keypresses. For example, instead of typing "remark" they type "rmeark". It can also refer to missing letters, eg: "rmark". And it can apply to code as well as spelling, eg: someone types "<re>" when they meant "<ref>". Just fix them as you see them, but only in articles - it is not usually a good thing to fix typos in people's messages etc. - Sitush (talk) 05:56, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
You wanted to tell something else on my edits, but could not recollect, and wanted to comeback later. Do you get it now?Rayabhari (talk) 14:56, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Kanmer

Hi. There was one line stub article of a site belonging to IVC,Kanmer. I have tried to develop it with citations. Can you kindly glance at it and give feedback. I have some confusion in citing websites. When cited, they appear a little hapahazardly as references. Thank you.Rayabhari (talk) 10:45, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

The citation problem was not really yours. However, I cannot fix Preliminary observations on the excavation at Kanmer, Kachchh, India because I do not know what statements you intend it to support. - Sitush (talk) 18:24, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
OK. I have put it under "further reading". Thank you.Rayabhari (talk) 05:23, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Banawali

I have made series of edits and added info and citation to banawali, another indus valley site. Can you give feedback? I tried to adopt whatever you suggested. If possible, pl. put something about POV of my edits.Rayabhari (talk) 15:00, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

How to add photo (shot by me)?Rayabhari (talk) 15:00, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Kunal, Haryana

Hi.Sitush, When there are more citations from the same book,in different pages, like 80,95,159,320,356,400, is it suffecient to give just a reference or is it good to put all pages in same citation with a,b,c,d,e. I have created a new page Kunal, Haryana where I tried such citation, can you kindly go through?Rayabhari (talk) 07:39, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Article Kunal, Haryana created by me today is tagged as orphan. I tried to put links in the article. I not very clear about it - whether other articles need links of Kunal?Otherwise, there are more than three links in the article. Can you have a glance?Rayabhari (talk) 13:53, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited Bhagatrav, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Rangpur (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

...so much for your kind message and fizzy-bubbly stuff. Sorry for the delayed response; I'm not editing much these days. When I've more time to spare, I'll take a peep at some of the linked articles. Haploidavey (talk) 12:53, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

Just another note to say how nice it is to have you "on side" at those articles. Haploidavey (talk) 15:37, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

Masthikatte

I've made a number of copyedits to the article Masthikatte, let me know what you think :) Iamthemuffinman (talk) 15:25, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

Thank you. I have again added height in meters (of waterfalls) because, there is some doubt about the height of waterfalls in some circles.Rayabhari (talk) 16:09, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
I didn't mean to remove the original ones, I think having both there is a good idea. Iamthemuffinman (talk) 17:21, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
Use the {{convert}} template. Eg: {{convert|1400|ft|m}} gives 1,400 feet (430 m) and {{convert|5|km|mi}} gives 5 kilometres (3.1 mi). Swap the units round to convert in the opposite direction, eg: metres to feet or miles to km.

Rayabhari, my apologies for not dropping in recently - been busy in real life but will try to catch up with your queries above next week, - Sitush (talk) 17:28, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

I didn't know about that function, this will be useful in the future Iamthemuffinman (talk) 18:38, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Naranappa uppoor requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 11:33, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

On behalf of Sitush

Hi Rayabhari. My name is Qwyrxian, an I'm an editor and admin here at Wikipedia. User:Sitush told me that he's been informally helping you get familiar with Wikipedia. He's also said that he's probably retiring from Wikipedia editing, and asked if I could continue helping you in his absence. I'll add your page to my watchlist, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:09, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
