Closing AfDs

[edit]

Hi Renata3. Regarding your closing of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Anathemacious, as a non-admin, you should only close AfDs that do not result in a Delete. Consensus for delete should only be reached by an admin. I used to close VfDs (the precursor to AfDs) back when I was a non-admin, and I would never touch the delete results, not matter how overwhelming. Thanks, and keep up the good work! --Deathphoenix 16:05, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I know. Thanks. Renata3 16:08, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
No problems. Seeing as how you do good work, including janitorial work, you might want to pursue adminship at some point in the near future. :-) --Deathphoenix 17:04, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm really not sure what you want me to add. Would you be able to be a bit more specific? Ambi 00:08, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As a general rule, if I find a bunch of articles on a particular topic or linked by a very strong common theme, such as location, I tend to make a category for them. There certainly are quite a few article about Kaunas, so I don't see why a cateogory is inappropriate. Often, once a category is created, other articles start being put in, including ones that are hard or impossible to navigate to from the main article (in this case, Kaunas). Logically, you're right that Kaunas belongs in Kaunas County, not the other way round, but Lithuanian geography (unlike Poland) hasn't been categorised by county, so for the moment the best fit is to put the Kaunas County article into the Kaunas category. The best solution would be to make a Kaunas County category, then make the Kaunas category a subcat of that, but since that would involve (for consistency) categorising all of Lithuania by county, I haven't done it (at least not yet!). Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the feedback. You may have noticed that I've made a start on categorising by County, but I am having trouble distinguishing cities/towns/villages, except that sometimes populations seem absurdly small for a "city" - I wonder if "city" has a particular meaning in Lithuania? This would seem to be suggested by the apparently comprehensive List of cities in Lithuania. A lot of the stub articles are pretty dire, often not stating the county/municipality of the settlement, which doesn't help matters! And there's a lot of towns and "cities" appearing in red, which is a bad sign. It is worth remembering that some East European states have stubs about many of their villages - Lithuania shows signs of having been neglected a bit! I'd appreciate any help that you could give me by putting down some decent stubs for the left-out towns/cities/villages and trying to sort out what the city vs town business is all about... Also, I note that various Lithuanian articles about buildings or institutions don't specify what city/town they are in, which is a bit annoying! Any blanks you could fill in would be welcome. Many thanks, --TheGrappler 02:09, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for your detailed comments. See Talk:Paul Kane about the image placement. You might be seeing white space if you're using a small font, but placing them differently separates the images from the text relating to them. Maybe we'll just have to write more text in that "works" section. Oh, and the article already is on FAC (with a clean record of six supports so far :-). Maybe User:Captmondo can find the book, he's located in Toronto... Lupo 14:58, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

COA

[edit]

Renata, I'm from Tbilisi, Georgia and i have a question - will you finally STOP adding parts of Georgia to a list of sovereign states? I'm sick and tired of correcting this marasmic blunder, which you are so stubbornly "reverting". Probably you want Klaipeda's coat of arms to appear in a sovereign states' coat of arms list?

As to the list of the sovereign states: you should read it CAREFULLY. I am sure you know about the difference between a sovereign state and an unrecognized (de facto independent) state. As you could notice, I don't touch the flag list of the unrecognized states. I will (or somebody else will) "touch" it, when the de facto situation changes, which possibly will take place quite soon. But there is a difference between an UNRECOGNIZED state and a sovereign state like Spain or South Africa. The flags and coat of arms of the unrecognized states should be in the unrecognized states' lists, not in the lists of the sovereign states' flags and coat of arms.

Look, I have told this before: all complaints go to List of sovereign states. As long as the state/territory/whatever is in the list, its COA is in the gallery. Simple. The only thing I can do is to add a note. Renata 19:45, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

General picture ideas

[edit]

Hi! I have an idea for more NYC pictures. Why not take pictures of NYC schools, e.g. Forest Hills High School of Forest Hills, Queens. WhisperToMe 02:15, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

EDIT: Yes, it's a lot of schools. If you want, you can only do the ones in your (or one) borough and let the others in your Wikiproject do the rest.

EDIT: A few other pictures:

Hello Renata - I notice you're a member of WikiProject New York City. Check out the Transportation in New York City sub article. It tells a fascinating story and it's been nominated to be a US Collaboration of the Week after lots of work over the last few weeks. Check it out and if you like it, please vote for it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:USCOTW We need all the votes we can get! Wv235 04:12, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why should Maura be redirected to Maura Tierney? Would you like someone looking for information on your name to be redirected to Renata Daninsky? Maura Tierney is only one of 225 entries to come up in a search for Maura. 165.123.137.141 18:49, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfA review

[edit]

I received your message requesting an RfA review. I'd be glad to conduct the review. However, please understand I am currently badly back logged on significant requests. It took me more than two weeks to get around to completing Chairboy's RfA, and I have another one in the queue before your review.

I'd like to ask that you don't consider Wikipedia to be ungrateful if nobody nominates you. As you note, you work in more obscure areas to a significant extent. This means you're not going to get as readily noticed. It has nothing to do with gratefulness, and everything to do with happening to cross in front of someone's eyes who has an eye towards nominating people. There are lots and lots of great editors who never catch an RfA nominator's eye. I've nominated one or two myself, but only after I dug around looking for editors such as them.

I'd also like to make request; as you're well aware I'm sure, WTC 7 collapsed on September 11, 2001. There's a new building nearing completion on the property, but Wikipedia does not have a photograph of it. You live in NYC. Would you please go down there and take a few photos and upload the best one of the bunch and place it at 7 World Trade Center? The image currently there is an artist's rendition of what it looks like, not an actual photograph. --Durin 14:27, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I suspected that this might have a problem so I asked a colorblind Wikipedian. He said that he "can't really tell "Marijampole" and "Kaunas" apart". Designing a color palate usable for all forms of colorblindness seems very hard but would it be possible to make heavier (thicker) lines for the borders of the counties? Changing intensities of colors which border each other could also help. Rmhermen 23:18, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, it's much better now. Klaipeda became pretty dark though and it's not easy to read the black text on a dark background. Maybe it's only my crappy laptop screen, though. I appreciate the effort you put into this. Great job! -- nyenyec  03:03, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality

[edit]

Good afternoon. With my utmost respect I want to notify you of an important fact that there are mistakes in the particular articles relating to the municipalities of the Republic of Lithuania, such as Vilnius city municipality, Varėna district municipality and, most probably, some others as well (thus do check all the respective articles please)- namely, the word "nationality" is used incorrectly in the demography section of the mentioned articles when it reffers to "nationality makeup" as in the English language the word "nationality" generally tends to mean the citizenship that a person holds rather than the ethnicity and the ethnicity clearly is the thing that is meant to be mentioned there in those articles; hence I do believe that you should change these words in the mentioned articles from "nationality makeup" to "ethnic makeup" as such words would be better. Regehani tara bahera! Dara Fryram hani tahreha! 09:51, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did manage to do the beforementioned changes to the (some of the) articles in question myself now, but I edited out the mistake which I have mentioned previously only of Vilnius city municipality and Varena district municipality articles and while I don't know for sure if they appear anywhere else, it seems this form of the statistics table, with its titles and style, is some kind of standart for the "Demography" sections of the articles about the municipalities of the Republic of Lithuania, therefore I urge you to check the other articles(you probably know what municipalities there are in the Republic of Lithuania and how are those articles called, as you seem to have edited them relatively much yourself - which is the reason why I have decided to contact you regarding this matter on the first place) if there is this mistake repeated in any of them, and if there is, then edit the mistake out so that the users of Wikipedia would not be misled into believing that it is typed about nationality there, rather than ethnicity - I would like to confirm once again that those two are different things. Regehani tara bahera! Dara Fryram hani tahreha! 10:45, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks for the input. I'll definitely check. And welcome to Wikipedia! Renata 15:39, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gediminas move

[edit]

About the move you decided to complain about on my page. This was a page was moved by Szopen as a cut and paste, and no-one realised. I moved it back. Maybe it might have been better for you to complain there. Thanks - Calgacus 23:21, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Calgacus is involved in quite a few moving wars, and I was forced to protect from move the Władysław II Jagiełło page (you may want to comment on it's talk, btw). He also messed up the talk page there, but I restored it. It's a pain, though.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 16:30, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I.e. two. The first, Gediminas, Duke of Lithuania, was wrong title which I corrected. Do you want to restore it or something? You're going around slandering me in behaviour unbefitting someone with admin privileges, and it isn't appreciated.
I messed up the talk page on Władysław II Jagiełło? You never pointed that out to me. I don't believe you, so would you mind proving it? - Calgacus 16:46, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am not Calgacus nanny :) Now about Jogaila/Jagiello you deal with it. I have decided that naming wars are the most counter-productive activity in WP. I want to write some real articles, not to argue about two words... Renata 17:44, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you want no more move wars, please cast your vote on Talk:Gediminas, Grand Duke of Lithuania. I can't agree that Gediminas' title was inferior to that of the Polish king. --Ghirla | talk 19:17, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm done with the Community Portal merge/upgrade. I've implemented the Community Bulletin Board as you suggested, and have endeavored to jump-start it with as much news and as many announcements as I could find. If you spot any Wikipedia events that deserve posting, by all means please do so.

I've also tied it into all the relevant instruction sets, though I may have missed some.

The cheat sheet concept I didn't implement, because that would really crowd this page, which seems busy enough already. Also, I'm not familiar enough with the Wikipedia namespace yet to be able to compile such a list - it would take me days. --Go for it! 14:56, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another Esperanzial note...

[edit]

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.
