Hello, W9793, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like this place and decide to stay.

Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page Foreign relations of Russia, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

  • A "missing periodical" error. References show this error when the name of the magazine or journal is not given. Please edit the article to add the name of the magazine/journal to the reference, or use a different citation template. (Fix | Ask for help)

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 13:56, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello W9793! Your additions to Evan S. Medeiros have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 21:56, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject categories

[edit]

Please note that Wikiproject categories, such as Category:WikiProject Africa articles or Category:WikiProject Politics articles, go on the talk page, not on the main article page — and further, they are transcluded by the use of WikiProject templates, and not directly declared on the page as a [[Category:Bla bla]] statement. So please don't go around adding articles to Wikiproject categories that are for talk pages. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 12:01, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the clarification. W9793 (talk) 00:58, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

David Dollar moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, David Dollar, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources to show notability and satisfy the verifiability requirement. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Kleuske (talk) 11:33, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I've updated the draft - please advise if further references are needed. Thanks. W9793 (talk) 12:05, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

September 2023

[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into David Dollar. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Liz Read! Nadège Rolland moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Nadège Rolland. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability and it is a WP:BLP and therefore needs in-depth coverage in the source or at least, a good amount, source are just passing mentions while some are not reliable (see WP:SIGCOV). I don’t want to take to AfD, yet.. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Ways to improve American Security Project

[edit]

Hello, W9793,

Thank you for creating American Security Project.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Article is likely notable, found extensive mentions in CNN and NYTimes alone, not SIGCOV but would pass under WP:BASIC keep

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Shushugah}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Concerns Regarding Deletion of Contents on President Obama Pages

[edit]

Hello User W9793,

I've recently contributed well-referenced material to several pages related to President Obama. The information I added aimed to present a balanced view by acknowledging both positive "PR material" and critical perspectives on his Foreign Policy.

It's crucial to uphold the collaborative nature of editing without allowing personal political opinions to dictate content removal. While I understand everyone brings their unique perspective, it's essential to maintain a diverse and comprehensive representation of views.

Deleting content solely based on personal opinions could undermine the integrity of the collaborative editing process. Imagine if every editor started removing content they disagreed with—Wiki would lose its credibility.

I'm not interested in engaging in a continuous cycle of undoing edits, but I want to emphasize that if content deletion continues due to political opinions, I may have to seek arbitration to address this matter impartially.

Instead, let's consider our differences as opportunities for enriching the wiki. Our varied perspectives can contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of foreign policy and social sciences. It's my hope that we can collaborate constructively, respecting each other's contributions and avoiding any unintentional sabotage of one another's work.

Wishing you a fantastic 2024,

Best regards, JCDV (talk) 21:36, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
