Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/India
Points of interest related to India on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment – Style – To-do |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to India. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|India|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to India. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Asia.

- A collection of advertisements is not a reliable source.
- Another interview
- IMBb again
- Sole mention of the subject is "The movie stars Arshin Mehta."
- Sole mention of the subject is one sentence and a cast list.
- Sole mention of the subject is one sentence attributed to her and her presence in a list.

- Delete Unsurpring it's Pppery again nominating an article I worked on just yesterday as it invoked this category I'm currently patrolling alongside autopatrollers, Category:Pages with templates in the wrong namespace, foe deletion. I then sent it to RMTR because of the Arshin Mehta (Actress) title which I ain't surprised due to seeing that it was salted (due to 3 creations and 3 admin deletions within November and December 2017) and it was posed as though I'm part of a hidden scheme just to have an article here with this title whatever it takes when in fact it isn't. Good luck anyone reviving this though! Intrisit (talk) 21:21, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

A director whose films are not notable, thus failing to meet the WP:NDIRECTOR criterion, and the sources are likely NEWSORGINDIA. For example, this Mid-Day article is a sponsored piece, as it appears under the 'brand-media' section and is published by BrandMedia. Other sources are ANI press releases, which are neither independent nor WP:SIGCOV and may also be sponsored. Consequently, the subject currently fails to meet GNG. - Delete: When considering the sources used in the article, the Mid Day article is paid. The Latestly article also appears promotional, as it lacks a genuine author. Similarly, the APN News article doesn't have a credible author. As for the ThePrint article, it was sourced from ANI. While ThePrint is generally regarded as reliable, this particular article is also paid. Therefore, I will align with the nominator’s position on this matter. This clearly fails WP:NPOL, as the subject has not won any elections to prominent positions like MP, MLA, or MLC. Additionally, it does not meet Wikipedia's general notability guidelines (WP:GNG). Prefacing this by saying I cannot search except in English, I can't find any substantive content about this person. This book at least verifies the claim, but that's it, no further detail. Other sources I've found have also been trivial mentions. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 23:46, 8 November 2024 (UTC)

- Chanel Dsouza, I don't normally like to argue with people who are agreeing with me, but are you sure about your comment? This AfD is for a person, not a book... ♠PMC♠ (talk) 07:49, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Delete: After careful review and extensive searches for supporting references, none were found to substantiate the content. Therefore, I am inclined to proceed with the information provided by the nominator, recognizing their contribution to this article. Baqi:) (talk) 07:26, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Jannatulbaqi, err, continuing my trend of arguing with people who are agreeing with me, are you entirely certain about your comment as well? I have to admit I'm concerned to see you say you made "careful review and extensive searches" when two minutes before posting this comment you were declining two AfC drafts and accepting another. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 07:54, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- How long could it really take to do a quick Google search? That’s exactly what I did. I simply searched the name on the search engine and found that there wasn't much of significance. In the end, I wrote that I agree with the nominator and will go along with them.
- Additionally, a book published in 2015 mentioned: 'Mahathera Nagasena, believed to have been a historical figure, was sent to the kingdoms of Bactria as a Buddhist missionary during Menander's rule. Menander (known as Milinda in Buddhist traditions) was described as arrogant.' Thank you with Warm Regards! Baqi:) (talk) 08:10, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- I am the nominator, in case that wasn't clear. Nevertheless, I feel obligated to point out when people make AfD comments that don't appear to be consistent with the circumstances. In your case, I am sorry, but I found it difficult to believe your initial statement that you made "careful review and extensive searches" given that two minutes prior you had been rapidly assessing AfC submissions. Had your initial comment been more honest about simply doing a "quick Google search", I wouldn't have called it out. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 08:24, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, people often do the same, and I’ve noticed it too. But if you read the comments I’ve made, even in previous AFD, you’ll see that I am genuinely careful. or I’m glad that you paid close attention to my activity, and I also apologize if any of my statements caused you any hurt. Take care, thank you. Baqi:) (talk) 08:31, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

This is about an unreleased film which does not satisfy film notability. Unreleased films are only notable if production itself has received significant coverage by reliable sources. A review of the sources shows that they are all announcements or press releases about the film or its songs. The first five references, in four different media, are essentially identical, which is best explained that they are the same press releases to different media.

- Because release is announced for late November, I would normally have suggested to keep this and I would have merged the draft into it .....but there are TWO drafts Draft:Miss You Movie (created yesterday, just before the article, same creator) and Draft:Miss You (film) by User:Gowthamaprabu (created 21. 10); the latter was declined by the nom. Read the following comment: "Thank you for your submission, but the subject of this article already exists in Wikipedia. You can find it and improve it at Miss You (film) instead.", said the nom of the present AfD when declining the page.....which, if I was the page creator, would make me think, the page discussed here is not concerned by deletion! Still as Gowthamaprabu's Draft was the first page to be created, I consider it should be the starting point so I suggest a merge of all three pages into Draft:Miss You (film). Premise is known, actors are notable, coverage for verification exists, so even if it's the other way around, I won't be shocked but declining the Draft and inviting its creator to expand a page and, an hour later or so, taking the said page to AfD is a bit confusing.Mushy Yank (talk) 22:42, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

- Hello @Robert McClenon and @Mushy Yank! Hope you're both doing well! I wanted to provide some context regarding the article Miss You (2024), which covers the upcoming film set for release at the end of November 2024. As mentioned transparently, I have been commissioned by the producers to edit and create content for this article, ensuring accurate representation of the movie. I’ve Confirmed that the official release date is November 29, 2024, though due to a lack of publicly available citations, I haven't specified the date in the article itself. I’ve included all available information with relevant citations, and I believe the content is accurate and complete as presented. If possible, I'd suggest we retain the article and continue to improve it together. We could even consider merging it with Draft: Miss You (Film) by User:Gowthamaprabu to consolidate information. Meena1998 (talk) 07:10, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- Merge into Draft:Miss You (film) since the film's release is near, let's wait. Once it hits theaters, it is expected to get more coverage and critical reviews. You can then update the page and publish it through the AFC route. For now, let's merge its content into the declined draft:).Chanel Dsouza (talk) 13:29, 6 November 2024 (UTC)

- I can see many upcoming movie articles on Wikipedia, and as an editor who enjoys creating and editing movie articles, I’m particularly focused on the Indian film industry. My goal is to reach 10,000 edits and become a strong contributor to Wikipedia. Recently, I encountered a deletion nomination for an article on an upcoming film, even though its release date has been announced. I removed the "unreleased" category and added the "upcoming films" category since the shoot and post-production are complete. I’ve verified all the data through news articles, and everything seems accurate. This is the first time I've faced a deletion nomination for a film article, and I’m feeling a bit helpless. - Nothing about the production, as stated, is notable. Everything is very, very standard. WP:NFF is clear:
Additionally, films that have already begun shooting, but have not yet been publicly released (theatres or video), should generally not have their own articles unless the production itself is notable per the notability guidelines.
Basically, you should not be creating articles in main article space about the vast majority of films that have not yet released. - First of all, the article is written in the form of a fan-made story, attempting to villainize an entity (or perhaps show off? There are numerous instances in articles about Indian military history where users have included shocking or vulgar acts committed by militants).
- WP:CITEKILL has made source analysis more complex, but once unreliable sources were cleared, the analysis became much easier. The article clearly fails to meet WP:GNG, as well as old sources falling under WP:RAJ and WP:AGEMATTERS have widely been used (caused the reason for the put down of the last proposal, and i was on a break)
Analysis:
- The New Cambridge Modern History Vol. 7 (1713-63)* by Lindsay, J. O., Ed:
The book only mentions "Murshidabad" once, with the context found in the parent article on Maratha invasions of Bengal.
- The same applies to *The Marathas - Cambridge History of India (Vol. 2, Part 4)* by Stewart Gordon;
It mentions the event alongside the "Maratha invasions of Bengal," which, indeed, should also be referenced here. A separate article is not warranted for this event, as it is a minor occurrence within a larger conflict—specifically, a plunder. Such events do not meet the minimum notability standards. In fact, an entire page from a reliable source is missing in this case. Additionally, the use of a military conflict infobox is unnecessary here, as it follows the same problematic pattern seen with articles like "Battle of X" or "X-Y Wars" in Indian military history. This approach has caused numerous issues. In conclusion, the article fails to meet notability standards and is poorly written. The content could easily be integrated into the parent article instead. See the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Film/Indian_cinema_task_force#Dubbed films do not get articles. Dubbed films do not get articles in any circumstances. The icing on the cake is that the last Zee News source upon translating in English says that It was made as a Kannada movie with Shankar as the director. Recently this film is being released in Telugu with the title Yamadhira.
The original text was
The 5th source (TFPC) despite being potentially unreliable also confirms the same. Yamadheera is a Kannada film made by Vedala Srinivas as producer and Shankar as director. Our Telugu actors Nagababu, Madhusudan, Ali and Satya Prakash are acting in this movie.

Despite its creation by a blocked sockpuppet, specifically User:Bhusungk, this political party was founded this year and has not yet participated in any elections. The article currently fails to meet the notability criteria outlined in WP:GNG and WP:NORG. As a newly established regional political organization, it has not made notable contributions to regional or national political landscapes. Most sources are centered on initial news coverage reporting the party’s formation by a well-known actor, lacking substantial analysis or depth regarding the party’s policies, actions, or influence. There is no indication that the party has engaged in any significant political activities or initiatives that would establish its importance. Additionally, no reliable sources provide evidence of public or political recognition or electoral impact that would qualify it as a noteworthy political entity.–𝐎𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐬 𝐀𝐥 𝐐𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢 ʕʘ̅͜ʘ̅ʔ 13:49, 1 November 2024 (UTC)

- Keep Just because the party has not participated in any elections, doesn't make it less notable, the party was created 9 months ago from a 15 years old philanthropic fan club, which did participate in an local election, especially since the recent massive political conference, TVK has already been established to be notable party in Tamil Nadu politics, as it was created by a very popular actor in India, also already got millions of memberships, the mainstream media has been covering everything, the article is supported with lots of reliable sources with significant coverage meeting the criterias of WP:GNG, and they have become more active in the past months with announcements of policies and resolutions and will probably be actively engaging in more political activities and campaign for the 2026 election. - that's true
- I agree to the point 188.236.122.29 (talk) 14:23, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Yarohj: While TVK has gained attention due to its high-profile celebrity leader, actor Vijay, and its recent political conference, the article may still fall short of meeting WP:GNG. Most coverage thus far has focused on the party's formation and media events, rather than deep, independent analysis of its policies or political influence. While membership numbers and media attention are notable, the political impact of TVK will only become clearer once it participates in elections. — MimsMENTOR talk 18:43, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- there is enough and more evidence to prove that this is a political party with a massive public base
- But I disagree the need to be deleted as it is a party created by a well known personality in India and has a high chance of winning the next legislative assembly elections by a high margin and a chance of forming a state government 188.236.122.29 (talk) 14:28, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- Predictions of its electoral success are speculative, the party’s actual impact will only be clear once it participates in elections. Previous attempts by other celebrities to enter politics in Tamil Nadu, like Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, did not lead to significant political success. While the party's future potential is acknowledged, it does not yet meet the criteria for notability based on current available information. — MimsMENTOR talk 18:46, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

- Delete (for now): I am not casting a strong delete vote, but I do support drafting the article, as it falls under WP:TOOSOON. Given its growing popularity and potential significance within the Indian political landscape, I believe there is a strong likelihood that the article will meet the GNG in the near future. Let me list out my point of view on the article.--— MimsMENTOR talk 17:56, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- The party has not yet participated in any elections. This means that its impact on the political landscape is still to be fully realized. The article mainly cites initial news reports about the party’s formation and its ideological stance, with most coverage focusing on the widely acclaimed and highly honoured actor's background as a celebrity and the announcement of his intentions for political reform. While the article includes substantial media coverage, most of the references appear to be centred around the announcement and some early speeches, rather than detailed analysis or critical coverage of the party's policies or activities.
- WP:GNG requires significant coverage from independent and reliable sources, including substantial analysis or reporting. At this stage, the coverage of article is mainly superficial, reflecting media interest but lacking deep journalistic inquiry into its policies or broader political influence. For that reason, the article fall short in meeting the WP:GNG.
- Finally, while the party’s registration with the Election Commission is underway, its full impact on Tamil Nadu's political scene will not be apparent until it participates in the upcoming elections (like the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections). Until then, it remains an emerging entity without substantial political achievements.--— MimsMENTOR talk 17:56, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Your comments about "participating in any elections, impact on the political landscape, detailed analysis or critical coverage of the party's policies or activities, party’s registration with the Election Commission, full impact on Tamil Nadu's political scene and substantial political achievements" are not policy based or required criteria under GNG. GNG sources are not evaluated based on personal preferences. Jeraxmoira🐉 (talk) 19:20, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- It's surprising that you consider the points I raised as "personal preferences" rather than recognizing them as general principles that apply to all establishments seeking to meet Wikipedia's notability criteria. The points I discussed are entirely focused on aligning with the guidelines outlined in GNG, and are not based on subjective preferences. They are intended to reflect the standard requirements for notability, which are consistent across all articles under said category. — MimsMENTOR talk 19:31, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Are you sure they are consistent across all articles under said category? - Yes, I stand by my comments. Are you confident that all the articles in the categories you mentioned fully comply with the guidelines? Have you reviewed any of them? or were discussions held to retain the articles and considered eligible for inclusion? and I notice that very few of these articles actually have reliable sources to support their notability. I encourage you to present counterarguments specifically addressing GNG, rather than listing other articles that may or may not have passed the notability guidelines. About the party in question, it is important to assess whether it truly meets the criteria for inclusion based on its current status and available coverage. Let's focus on the application of the guidelines, rather than on other cases that may not be directly relevant. And If you believe the article meets the GNG criteria, please provide a detailed explanation of how it qualifies. — MimsMENTOR talk 19:56, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- If other cases are not relevant here, why did you reply above with "Previous attempts by other celebrities to enter politics in Tamil Nadu, like Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, did not lead to significant political success."? Jeraxmoira🐉 (talk) 20:08, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Some users argue that this article should remain because it was founded by a well-known actor in India and claim the party has a strong chance of winning the next legislative assembly elections and potentially forming a state government, on the basis of only "popularity". However, this is purely speculative and falls under WP:FUTURE and that is why I referenced the political involvement of two similarly popular actors, to highlight that fame alone does not guarantee political success or notability. — MimsMENTOR talk 20:17, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

- Keep - Plenty of reliable sources covering the company. APK hi :-) (talk) 10:09, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- Source assessment - Most of these sources were evaluated in the previous deletion discussion. However, I evaluated them a second time to either confirm that assessment or not.
- 1. Forbes India is not Forbes. It must be evaluated with care. This reference was previously assessed and I would agree with that assessment. The reference looks like it was written by the company itself based on the details information, quotes, and use of images and infographics that are promotional to the company.
- 2. LiveMint - I would not consider this source reliable at all. I can go to Fiverr or Upwork and pay to have my own article written for the publication. Not saying this one is, but do not trust a publication that doesn't always differentiate between paid press and organic press. If it is found to be reliable, this particular reference is similar to the Forbes India one above. Tons of quotes and graphics for the company.
- 3. Times of India - This is a reference published since the last AfD discussion. Clearly falls under WP:NEWSORGINDIA so not reliable.
- 4. Forbes India - This one is similar to the other Forbes India reference. However, the promotional tone appears to be from the publication's own research as to why the company won the award. It also appeared in print version so I would say this would be within the rhelm of ORGCRIT.
- 5. LiveMint - Same as 2.
- 6. Economic Times - Falls under NEWSORGINDIA. No byline and the first sentence starts with the location the news is coming from, indicating a press release or churnalism.
- 7. Business Today - Interview which would not meet ORGCRIT
- 8. Money Control - Same as LiveMint.
I can only see one source that would probably meet ORGCRIT. I also see a heavy push by SPA's and likely COI editors in the previous and current editing. If kept, the page will need cleaned up for NPOV. If deleted, salting may be in order to save time of volunteer editors. Fails WP:NMUSICIAN. Looking at the listed films, I cannot see where he is mentioned on some and the others I do find him in are not supported by the sources used. A WP:BEFORE finds no significant coverage. There is also some FAKEREFerences used such as those for the awards. The one he apparently won does NOT show the award won, only lists his name as a nomination. CNMall41 (talk) 02:17, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

- Weak Keep. He is the lyricist of many songs and found some articles (reliable like Gaana, some aren't) [8] [9] [10]. Add citation needed to the award in question. DareshMohan (talk) 02:58, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I cannot find a reference to support the award so a citation needed tag would not suffice. The other references are not reliable. The first is a redaction of what was posted on Instagram, the second is WP:NEWSORGINDIA, and the third is all quotes from the subject (it also shows a byline but posted by Odisha Diary Bureau which indicates it could be a paid placement - not assuming it is but not the strongest of sources). --CNMall41 (talk) 18:44, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

- Delete:It is evident that the subject does not adhere to the WP:GNG and WP:NMUSIC criteria. From my research, only have some routine coverage and the majority of sources are not good enough. Furthermore, some of the few news stories available from internet have no bylines which means that they are mostly paid. 111.92.70.85 (talk) 13:23, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- What evidence do you have to support your claim? The sources found online contradict your statement. Could you please clarify your position?; — MimsMENTOR talk 10:14, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Keep: It is surprising that the subject is noted as not passing WP:NMUSICIAN, as reliable sources can be found online to meet the criteria for WP:BIO and WP:GNG. However, the subject is more commonly known as "Kumaar" rather than the original name "Rakesh Kumar Pal," which might be causing difficulty in finding reliable sources. The subject has made significant contributions to mainstream Bollywood, including three Filmfare Award nominations (2017, 2019, and 2024) for lyricist work in the popular films Jawan, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, and Roy (film). Additionally, the subject has won awards at Zee Cine Awards 2024 and Mirchi Music Awards 2023, both of which are highly regarded platforms in India. Based on these accomplishments, a strong case can be made to retain the independent article.--— MimsMENTOR talk 09:36, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- The issue is that winning an award under C7 does not guarantee notability. The guideline says someone "may be notable," indicating that they are likely to have significant coverage. The links you provided just shows the name and the award, no other context. So yes, the nominations and award can be verified, but there is no significant coverage of the person which is still a requirement. Note the specific wording of WP:NMUSICIAN - " and no criterion listed in this page confers an exemption from having to reliably source the article just because passage of the criterion has been claimed."
- CNMall41 (talk), I agree with your mentioning of the wording from WP:NMUSICIAN. However, it's important to note that the phrasing does not justify deleting the article simply because "significant coverage" hasn't been found yet, as opposed to the availability of "reliable sources." Additionally, an article doesn't need to meet 100% of the criteria to qualify as a stand-alone entry. The focus should be on adding more sources that provide significant coverage, as the notability guidelines are still met.--— MimsMENTOR talk 18:33, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- I agree that we do not delete something in the absent of sources present on a page. However, if we have searched for sources an do not find significant coverage, then delete would be appropriate. There would be a difference between sources that exist but are not and the page and sources that do not exist. I have tried to find significant coverage and have been unable to locate.--CNMall41 (talk) 18:42, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Here, I am providing references that demonstrate "significant coverage." While some of these sources may be questionable or weaker in terms of "reliability," they do fulfill the requirement for significant coverage. Please note, significant coverage means more than a brief mention, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the primary focus of the source material since the article already passes WP:NMUSICIAN and WP:GNG.

Kumaar Biography--— MimsMENTOR talk 19:20, 7 November 2024 (UTC)- Thanks for providing those. Here is my take as I already reviewed some of these in the WP:BEFORE.
- Filmfare, not independent. This is an interview with the majority (if not all) information provided by the subject.
- Radio and Music, falls under NEWSORGINDIA and not reliable. The clearest signs is the byline of "RnMTeam" instead of an actual writer; and, the article starting with the location which is where the news came from which is often based on a press release or information provided by the subject.
- bhaskar.com, This may be lost in translation but what I got from this is it says he has written more than 100 songs for films. That is a statement of notability, but nothing much there other than that and the fact he wrote a song for Mother's Day. Could maybe be used for notability if there are some additional that can be pooled with.
- ToI, reports on a statement he made about a film, but nothing significant "about" him. The article, which is also void of a byline, simply quotes what the subject wrote on Instagram.
- Bollywood Hungama, reliable source, but it is simply a bunch of pics from his birthday party. No context and not significant. More of a tabloid piece.
- Bollywood Bubble, I did not check the reliability of the publication, but assuming it is, the reference is still an interview and not independent.
- Bollyy.com, Another non-bylined piece. Also a redacted interview. A few paragraphs with some quotes.
- Business Upturn, cool story about being gifted a ring. Tabloid news and pretty much summarizes what the subject has on their Instagram page.
- Veethi], a bio listing which is not something we can use for notability.
- At this point I would think there is more coverage if the source above is correct about writing songs for over 100 films. I just don't see it unfortunately. Are there possible name variations you would suggest I search for? Based on the claim of notability, I would love to save the page but we need the sources to do so. --CNMall41 (talk) 00:12, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- As I have been unable to find sources that comprehensively list all of the subject's works, I am concluding my part of the discussion here. However, I strongly oppose the deletion of this article. It already meets the criteria outlined in WP:BIO, WP:GNG and WP:NMUSICIAN. The inability to find a complete work history should not warrant deletion, as many articles would not meet this standard under similar circumstances. Deleting an article simply due to incomplete citations is not necessary when the subject's notability is already established by existing guidelines.
- I encourage the author and other editors to focus on adding more reliable citations to strengthen the article and address the concerns raised by the nominating user. Expanding the list of references and ensuring accurate citations will not only enhance the article's credibility but also help in fulfilling the request for additional sources. Thank you for the discussion, and I hope further contributions will improve the article's quality and completeness. — MimsMENTOR talk 06:43, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
