In Abandoned Space, Peter Hledik, an experienced Slovak director, deals with a phenomenon concerning us all: death and dying. Personal experience with the death of his sister was his primary inspiration and, after many years, it is reflected in this documentary. Are we going to be reincarnated into a new organism, shifted to a new dimension of space‑ time, or is there going to be nothing at all? We can speculate about this, however, but nobody at present has a clear answer. Different belief systems provide varying hypotheses about death and the afterlife. Neurologists, theologians, doctors, philosophers and people who survived clinical death, all bring their points of view into the discussion, yet the unknown, the impossibility to know, still remains. Death, a question concerning humanity since the dawn of history, still defies answering by its very nature. (Academia Film Olomouc)
