We are on the same track as two years ago with lots of adventure, some humour and overall a relaxing film for the whole family. Unfortunately though, it plays by slightly different rules, with the characters switching avatars, and it turns out that Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart may be likeable, but they don't pull off everything as well as they should. Still, this sequel is fine harmless fun for the whole family that doesn't put the first film to shame. ()
A big step backwards compared to the previous part. Jake Kasdan ruined the film by a bad decision, when he changed the characters, which significantly reduced the humour (Bethany in Jack Black’s body was perfect and it was a sin to change that), and the tasks are also significantly less interesting than last time. Apart from the ostriches and monkeys, there wasn't much of anything proper. The finale is quite nicely action-packed, but I suffered quite a bit in the cinema and was looking forward to going home. Three stars by grace, but only by a whisker. 5/10. ()
DeVito’s Rock is excellent, better than the last one. Jack Black enjoys his role as a loudmouthed, racist black guy and the rest of them are just OK. The action scenes are inventive, especially the on in the desert and the climax with the airship. The end returns to the original plot from the first film, sowing the seeds for another sequel, but I’m not sure if they’ll be able to convince the main stars to do it. ()
Totally unnecessary sequel, which is not significantly worse than the two-year-old part, but it still bored me to watch. Mainly because of the idiotic jokes, which amused me at most in a third of cases. Maybe it's because watching a variation of the same thing is always a worse feeling, but on the next level of Jumanji it's clearly visible pattern that it follows. You know exactly when someone will fall, drop a line, which they will then repeat three times in a row. Simply such an undemanding film that it's actually repulsive. I watched the "first one" again at home, also because I saw it in the cinema with the dubbing, but I won't watch the second one. And the disgusting cliffhanger was of course expected, but I won't go to the cinema for the next assault. ()
The most tiresome and in all aspects most unnecessary sequel to an already mediocre first film in a long time. That the script doesn’t work is perhaps obvious to everyone in this mindless, plastic piece of entertainment. But that even the visuals, the pacing and the directorial ideas don’t work, either, that is unexpected. Major dud. The usually charismatic and muscular The Rock doesn't help either, nor does The Hound, who took on another wild role with gusto after GoT. ()
Even worse than last time. The humor is still one-note "characters versus players", the action is dull and unimaginative, and when something a bit more serious starts happening, it's a downright travesty. It's a waste of any more words. ()
A surprisingly good sequel to the first part with even funnier characters, great visuals and unexpectedly great humour that succeeded 80% of the time. The cast was a delight, especially the supporting character played by Hound from Game of Thrones and then the classics Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, who did a great job of inhabiting the role of the senile old men, throwing in one joke after another, I had a huge amount of fun. What maybe bothered me was the sort of simplistic finale, but that just belongs to a teen adventure movie and a forced mandatory happy ending. I was expecting a tragedy, but this adventure ride pulled it off very adequately and scores points with its meticulously crafted story. ()
Compared to the previous installment, the story took an obvious turn for the worse. When I first saw Danny DeVito, I wasn't happy. But just like last time, the game, unlike the reality, saved me from some undesirable matters. In the end, the game characters that I found the funniest were Eddie and Milo’s avatars. There were quite a lot of funny scenes. Too bad that the screenwriters didn't put more effort into the story, which was considerably weaker. ()
Compared to the first film, the sequel is a step backward. Why? It seems to me that after the commercial success of the first installment, the creators didn’t put in as much effort with the sequel. There were a few fresh ideas to be had, no doubt, but it feels like the creators rode the wave of the first film's success, capitalized on everything that was positively received, tried to tweak it a bit (but I saw right through it), and shoved it into Jumanji: The Next Level (like, seriously, another dance scene with Ruby Roundhouse to the same song?). It’s a shame... On the plus side, I must definitely praise the decision to swap characters, with The Rock as DeVito and Kevin Hart as Glover. Many of the jokes landed well, and I enjoyed their mutual teasing; this was not a problem. Overall, the cast remains the biggest draw, and I’m increasingly falling in love with Karen Gillan as an actress. What didn’t please me, though, was the story. It lacked originality, and I expected a more thought-out spectacle. The CGI occasionally descended into a digital mess. The ending, with its post-credit scene, piqued my interest; I wasn’t initially keen on a third installment, but now I see potential in it. So, we’ll see how they handle it. I’m giving it 65%. ()
