Ras and Calvin are from different social backgrounds. Apart from friendship, they are connected especially by their love for graffiti. Los Hongos follows their journey together to the first big art project which has a highly political context. It is an act in support of the Arab Spring demonstrators. Los Hongos is a realistic drama that often uses documentary methods. Director Oscar Ruiz Navia frequently emphasises the importance of the film's title in his interviews. The main characters live in a corrupt, rotten society, and just like for mushrooms, this situation is the condition for their growth, existence, and development. (Febiofest)
