What a Man

Seen during the Challenge Tour 2015: 30 days with world cinema. Film number 20 - Germany. I saved my four chosen ones (Poland, Germany, France, Denmark) for the end of the Tour, but yesterday I broke the rule because I was in the mood for a comedy, so I reached for the German box office hit of 2011 with two extremely likeable actors (Schweighoefer and Kekilli). To my great disappointment, it turned out like with the German box office hit of 2014. If I didn't know it was a German film, I could easily mistake it for one of those thousand embarrassing and clichéd American comedies. I don't understand it, Germans don't need this - they have great directors, actors, surely enough financial resources, and certainly no shortage of ideas. They excel in serious films, but comedies are very weak. It saddens me, one of the favorites of my Tour will be lingering at the bottom of the table, a bad choice of film. (19/04/2015)
