On this page of the Darkest Dungeon 2 guide, you will find a list of events that can take place during Expeditions. During the expedition, you will encounter various events on the map: Encounters, Hoarder, Lair, Assistance, Watchtowers, Shrines, Academic's Study, and Scouting.
Events
At the beginning of each expedition, you have a chance to do Scouting: discover a few markers and learn what you will find in them. This can help you determine the approximate route, avoid fights, visit the desired locations. The Scouting's success is influenced by upgrades to the Stagecoach. You can sometimes find a Watchtower on the map - it will reveal all the markers on the map. The following list will show the available types of Encounters and give some valuable advice.
Icon | Name | Description |
Resistance | This is where you will fight enemies - but not always. If the heroes have the option to reject the fight, you can use it (sometimes at the expense of Relicts or the Flame). Winning a fight always provides wealth and reduces the Loathing level, giving you a chance to earn Mastery Points.
Assistance | People you meet here will provide you with support in the form of resources, increase the Flame level or give you combat items.
Cultists | This is where you'll meet Cultists - enemies with specific characteristics who are good at imposing Stress on heroes.
Lair | You will find many treasures here, but the fight will not be easy. It is not worth risking your party when you do not know the exact course of the map, the heroes are weakened, or when it is a long way to the end. Also, do not take risks when you are not sure about your party's composition.
Hoarder | A merchant. Since in DD2 you don't have much of a choice when it comes to purchasing items at inns, the Hoarder may be your best choice. Remember that you cannot sell items in DD2.
Hospital | A Hospital is often the desired location. There you can heal ailments and negative Quirks of your characters. You can also restore Life for a low price (all payments are made with Relicts).
Watchtower | The Watchtower reveals the remaining "tiles" with question marks on the map. If it's an endpoint on the map, it's often better to skip it and check out a more interesting road.
Guardian | You can treat the Guardians as minor bosses of a given location who guard the passage and the treasures. Before you can face the boss, you have to defeat 2 groups of their minions. You will receive rewards for each fight, and you can withdraw after any of them. Bosses can have unique items.
Shrine | It allows you to discover the past of the heroes (max 5 points). This way you will unlock new skills and earn a Mastery Point for free.
Cache | The Cache guarantees a large number of rewards of various types - you won't have to fight or make difficult decisions. This is a better option than the items received during the Assistance encounter.
Academic's Study | An event similar to Assistance . You still have to choose the option of rewards and sacrifices and influence on relationships. However, you can sometimes count on bigger rewards and the opportunity to get a positive or negative Quirk.
The Old Bridge | Transitional location, no effects.
Inn | The goal of your journey - this is where you will end the expedition. |
