The Disco Elysium character, Egg Head, will give you the Make van Eyck's Jam Harder Core task. This walkthrough explains how to get a tape with a new melody, how to fix the Bundle of Magnetic Tape and how to get the beat for Egg Head to use at the church.

Unlocking the task

You must first complete the Solve the Egg Head Puzzle, where you need to talk to Egg Head (from the ravers tent) twice - Disco Elysium: Make van Eycks Jam Harder Core - walkthrough - Church and the Ravers - Disco Elysium Guide

You must first complete the Solve the Egg Head Puzzle, where you need to talk to Egg Head (from the ravers tent) twice. As a reminder: the tent is east of the church, in an area covered with ice.

Talk to Egg Head again about van Eyck's music and how to improve it. You will have to pass a Physical Instrument skill check - it is recommended to prepare for it beforehand and put on some items that will temporarily increase this skill. After passing the test, agree to help the ravers.

Finding the tape for Egg Head

Return to the eastern Martinaise and explore the south-east corner - this is the area east of the pawnshop, next to a parked vehicle - Disco Elysium: Make van Eycks Jam Harder Core - walkthrough - Church and the Ravers - Disco Elysium Guide

Return to the eastern Martinaise and explore the south-east corner - this is the area east of the pawnshop, next to a parked vehicle. There is an interactive tree, shown in the screenshot above.

There is a magnetic tape hanging from the tree. To get it, you must pass an Interfacing skill check. You will get a Bundle of Magnetic Tape.

You can make the Interfacing skill check easier by using with various items from your inventory, by touching the tree beforehand and passing the additional Visual Calculus skill check (do not hit the tree with your fist).

Fixing a Bundle of Magnetic Tape

With the acquired bundle of magnetic tape, go to the pawnshop, to the west of the tree - Disco Elysium: Make van Eycks Jam Harder Core - walkthrough - Church and the Ravers - Disco Elysium Guide

With the acquired bundle of magnetic tape, go to the pawnshop, to the west of the tree. Talk to Roy and convince him that the tune from the tape can be a musical breakthrough. After 15 minutes in the game world, you will receive the repaired magnetic tape.

Return to Egg Head in the ravers' tent and pass the magnetic tape to him. You will also get the Arno van Eyck thought, but it is not mandatory to examine it. You have 2 options now:

Ending the quest early - you can choose this option during the conversation or the quest will end automatically if you have gotten rid of Soona in the Help Ravers start a nightclub quest.
Continuing the quest - you will receive a new mission objective related to the beat.

Helping Egg Head with the beat

You must first complete the quest Help Ravers start a nightclub and choose the variant where you don't throw Soona out of the church.

Find Egg Head in the church. During the conversation, mention the strange sound you've heard earlier. You have to pass a difficult Interfacing skill check and as always, it is worth putting on some items that will increase your stats. Passing it will reveal the ultimate hardcore sound and you will receive 35 XP.

If you fail the Interfacing skill check, you will lose 1 morale point, but you can turn the knobs and get +1 bonus to the check.
