Spiritual successor to F.E.A.R.
Trepang Studios decided to create a spiritual successor to the first F.E.A.R. The team uses mechanics known from this game and adds a handful of their own ideas. There's slowing time down, no shortage of various types of weapons, and there's close-quarters combat as well. From this mix, the FPS Trepang2 was created.
But... what about Trepang1?
Trepang1 doesn't exist, and Trepang2 is not a continuation, just a joke from the developers. Perhaps an explanation for this will be found in the storyline, but for now, all we know is that we assume the role of a soldier ourselves. The protagonist will end up in a secret research facility and gain superhuman abilities, but will lose their memory in the process. So they will move forward, eliminating all obstacles to discover the truth. Which is said to be liberating.
