As the title suggests, Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered for PS4 and XONE is a refreshed edition of Assassin's Creed: Rogue, which debuted in 2014. The game was developed by Ubisoft Sophia.
Plot
Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered is set between the events presented in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin's Creed III. The game takes the player back to the second half of the eighteenth century, when the so-called Seven Years' War happened. Shay Patrick Cormac is the protagonist. He is a member of the Assassins' brotherhood, but he does not agree with the group's beliefs, which ultimately makes him switch sides. As one of the Templars, the protagonist begins the hunt for his former friends. It is worth noticing that among those making their appearances in this game, one will find characters from previous installments, such as Haytham Kenway or Achilles Davenport.
Mechanics
Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered for PS4 and XONE borrows plenty of concepts from the fourth part of the franchise. The game world consists of New York, the north-american River Valley, and waters of the Atlantic Ocean: apart from that, the player can visit other parts of the world from time to time. The experience is driven by completing story missions, which are accompanied by side quests. The list of optional activities includes reaching vantage points located at great heights (this uncovers different parts of the map and Shay does it using various parkour techniques), as well as gathering numerous collectibles.
Similarily to the previous Assassin's Creed games, combat plays a significant part here. Fighting takes place both on ground (as a former assassin, Shay is not only great at stealth, but he also does a good job during melee encounters) and at sea. The protagonist's ship – Morrigan, is equipped with new tools of destruction, such as an automatic swivel gun or burning oil, and those are complemented by a ram used to crash through frozen parts of the seas. Interestingly, also the enemies gained new skills, as they can both board ships and attack from the air; they can use environmental objects as cover as well.
Technical aspects
Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered brings refreshed visuals. While on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One the game runs in 1080p resolution, it launches in 4K on PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X. Furthermore, the creators improved the quality of the textures, as well as certain visual effects. Apart from the base version of the game, the package contains two expansion packs (The Armor of Sir Gunn and The Siege of Fort de Sable) and addon packs (Master Templar, Explorer) containing weapons, cosmetic elements, and special outfits for the protagonist, on top of which, the player will find Bayek's clothes (Assassin's Creed Origins).
