Not Just Fallout 5. Bethesda Plans More Than One Game From Its Post-Apocalyptic Franchise
Bethesda's Plans for The Elder Scrolls 6 Unaffected by Fallout Series Success. 'I'm Going to Avoid Putting Dates on Anything,' Says Todd Howard
Fallout 5 is the fifth main installment in a series of RPGs with a post-apocalyptic setting. The game is being developed by Bethesda Game Studios, and its release will be handled by Bethesda Softworks, which has owned the rights to the brand since 2004 (acquired from Interplay Entertainment).
When is the premiere of Fallout 5?
The release of Fallout 5 is a distant future. Back in 2021, Todd Howard admitted that he already had an idea for this production, but after the release of Starfield in 2023, his team focused on creating The Elder Scrolls VI and only after the debut of the latter would it prepare its next post-apocalyptic adventure.
However, the great success of the Fallout TV series in 2024 gave hope for an accelerated premiere of Fallout 5. Howard insisted that it did not affect his team's work schedule, but industry journalist Jez Corden stated shortly afterwards that Bethesda's parent company, Microsoft, is considering handing over the project to another studio to speed up its debut. Over time, Bethesda itself admitted (via Todd Howard) that it doesn't want to wait too long for the premiere of Fallout 5 and is looking for ways to speed up the development process of their projects.
Plot
At the moment when these words are written, we know virtually nothing about the plot of Fallout 5. The only certain thing is that the game will once again take us to a post-apocalyptic version of the United States, which has largely turned into a sandy wasteland after a tragic nuclear conflict.
Apart from the inhabitants of the vaults, which are gigantic, self-sufficient shelters for entire generations of survivors, America is home to the descendants of the few people who managed to survive the war, as well as to animals and creatures mutated as a result of exposure to deadly radiation.
Gameplay
Even though the developers haven't said anything yet about what the gameplay will look like in Fallout 5, Todd Howard assured in 2021 that the brand is part of their DNA. Therefore, it can be expected that the game will follow in the footsteps of the previous parts of the series and other Bethesda titles. In such a case, we will be watching the action from the first (FPP) or third (TPP) person perspective, and while exploring the vast, open world, we will undertake numerous quests pushing the plot forward as well as various missions and side activities. Along the way, we will develop our character and gather increasingly better equipment.
