Bethesda's Plans for The Elder Scrolls 6 Unaffected by Fallout Series Success. 'I'm Going to Avoid Putting Dates on Anything,' Says Todd Howard
In the interview, Todd Howard refused to give possible release dates for The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5. He also stated that the success of the Fallout series hasn't changed anything in Bethesda's plans.
In connection with the premiere of the Fallout TV series, the director and executive producer of Bethesda Studio, Todd Howard, gave many interviews. In one of them conducted by IGN, he was asked about the status of The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5.
- Howard replied that he doesn't intend to make any statements regarding the release dates of these games.
- He explained that Bethesda studio is currently very busy. In addition to The Elder Scrolls VI, it is also working on further development of Fallout 76 and Starfield.
- Todd Howard didn't explicitly state this, but his comment suggests that the team cannot currently begin working on Fallout 5. Journalists were asking whether the success of the show could encourage Bethesda to prioritize the fifth post-apocalyptic installment of the series, but there is little chance of that happening.
Of course, if Microsoft (the owner of Bethesda) wanted to take advantage of the increased interest in the brand, the easiest way would be to entrust the development of the new Fallout to Obsidian Entertainment, which it also owns. To this day, many fans cannot get over the fact that the team wasn't able to develop a new installment of the series based on the Fallout 4 engine (just as New Vegas was built on the foundations of F3). The developers at Obsidian clearly wanted to do it, as evidenced by The Outer Worlds, released in 2019, which, despite being a new brand, referenced many aspects of New Vegas.
Unfortunately, there is rather a small chance for that. Bethesda is unlikely to allow another studio to develop the next Fallout, so fans of the series will have to wait patiently for the completion of The Elder Scrolls VI. In the meantime, they can play Fallout 76, which is constantly being developed, and has just received its first major map expansion since its premiere (only on test servers for now). Furthermore, fans are still developing single-player versions of the series, and several major modifications are in the works, such as Fallout: London or the F2 remake.
