Last update: 17 April 2024

Increasing the level of your villages in Manor Lords is one of the game's central mechanics. Each time you reach another milestone, you receive a development point that allows you to master a new, useful specialization on the technology tree. On this page of the guide, we show what conditions must be met in order for a settlement level to increase and how to correctly use bonuses received for reaching new levels.

How to check the current level of a village?

You can check the current level of your village by hovering over the name of the settlement on the bar in the upper part of the screen - Manor Lords: How to level up your village? - FAQ - Manor Lords Guide

You can check the current level of your village by hovering over the name of the settlement on the bar in the upper part of the screen. Here you will also see what requirements you must meet to reach the next level. Milestones most often involve the constructing and inhabiting an appropriate number of Burgage Plots that also need to be at a specific level. Here are some examples:

  1. Upgrading from the initial Settler's Camp to Small Village will require building at least 5 level 1 Burgage Plots.
  2. To move from Large Village to Small Town, you'll need to have at least 10 level 1 plots, 7 level 2 plots, and 3 level 3 plots.

What is important here, the Burgage Plots of higher levels also fill the requirements for plots of lower levels. A level 3 Burgage Plot will fill a slot on every level.

Leveling of individual plots is possible by meeting the specific requirements of residents - Manor Lords: How to level up your village? - FAQ - Manor Lords Guide

Best specializations

Each time you advance to the next level of the settlement, you will receive a Development Point - Manor Lords: How to level up your village? - FAQ - Manor Lords Guide

Each time you advance to the next level of the settlement, you will receive a Development Point. You can spend your points in Development wheel, the access to which you receive by clicking on the name of the village in upper part of the screen and choosing "Development" tab. Each of the available specializations will cost you one development point, and specializations form trees - this means that to get access to upgrades further away in the tree, you'll need to unlock previous tiers.

The development wheel is divided into 4 quarters, each dedicated to a specific specialization. These are:

1 - Manor Lords: How to level up your village? - FAQ - Manor Lords Guide
  1. Yellow quarter (Agriculture) - skills from this tree will significantly improve the effectiveness of agriculture and farming. Among the most interesting skills from this tree we have Heavy Plow, which will allow using oxen in farm work, and Rye Cultivation, which is a grain much more durable than standard Wheat.
2 - Manor Lords: How to level up your village? - FAQ - Manor Lords Guide
  1. Blue Quarter (Trade) - a set of skills useful when trading. Consider especially Foreign Supplies, that will allow automatic resupply of useful resources without tax, provided your region is rich enough.
3 - Manor Lords: How to level up your village? - FAQ - Manor Lords Guide
  1. Red Quarter (Craftmanship) - skills focused on production and transforming resources into more complex goods. Take extra interest in the Armormaking tree that will allow the creation of new types of armor.
The choice of specializations should reflect the type of game and the assumptions of the scenario - Manor Lords: How to level up your village? - FAQ - Manor Lords Guide
  1. Green Quarter (Gathering) - a branch focusing on the best utilization of available natural resources. When focused on this branch, consider skills from Hunting tree that greatly increase the efficiency of your hunters.

The choice of specializations should reflect the type of game and the assumptions of the scenario. If you have decided to play peacefully without fighting and wars, it would be a good idea to invest in the Trade or Agriculture tree. However, if you planning to live by the sword, spending points on armormaking should pay off nicely.

Unfortunately, the game is still in Early Access, which means many specializations are still unavailable. However, we can expect that placeholders will be filled in subsequent updates.

Is it possible to reset specializations?

Once a specialization is learned, it cannot be reset - Manor Lords: How to level up your village? - FAQ - Manor Lords Guide

Once a specialization is learned, it cannot be reset! This fact, combined with the slow acquisition of Development Points, means that you need to carefully plan which specializations to unlock. If you can't decide on a course for the settlement to assume, put choosing specializations for later and wait for what the next months will bring for your village.
