Codename for New Game by Baldur's Gate 3 Devs Sounds Promising, But It's Better to Restrain Imagination
Larian Studios revealed to us the codename of its new project. By the way, we also learned that the developers may depart from turn-based RPGs in the future.
It has been less than a year since the premiere of Baldur's Gate 3, but both fans and developers at Larian Studios are already thinking about the new IP. We know that the devs plan not one, but two games, with the help of, among others, the Polish branch located in Warsaw. Moreover, one of them is allegedly supposed to "push many boundaries." Now we have also learned the codename of one of the two.

Excalibur
Swen Vincke disclosed during the lectures at Digital Dragons 2024 that the studio's new project has been given the codename Excalibur. The information went unnoticed by the industry media, so during our interview with the developer we asked him about this matter.
We're working on it. If we're brutally honest, we're trying to figure out what the hell it is.
This title is currently in such an early stage of development that even the devs themselves don't know exactly what it will be. They only mentioned that for now, they have "lots of little fragments." As a curiosity, we can mention that the name Excalibur originated from the name of one of Swen's dogs, as did the Baldur's Gate 3 codename.
We also asked the head of Larian about the formula for turn-based RPGs. As you know, both Baldur's Gate 3 and the two installments of Divinity: Original Sin fall into this genre, but we were curious to know if the developers might have another type of production in mind that they would want to develop.
So the answer is yes. I love turn-based strategy, but I'm not shy of action. You'll have to wait and see. I do consider the thing that you recognize the experimentation [Divine Divinity] as a compliment because we do try stuff out. You don't want to keep on making the same thing.
So, does the new Larian Studios game differ from what the Belgians have been accustomed to in recent years? We will most likely have to wait sometime for that answer.
