Fan Finds Extremely Hidden Quest by Playing Baldur's Gate 3 Unconventionally; Proving That Larian Studios Anticipated Player's Every Move
A content creator decided to see how Baldur's Gate 3's plot would turn out when he dropped the Netherstones in specific locations. In doing so, he managed to discover a new quest.
Baldur's Gate 3 is a game that gives the player enormous freedom. During the adventure, you can do practically anything - including selling items that are important to the plot. As if that wasn't enough, the developers anticipated many absurd decisions and prepared appropriate scenarios for them. What's interesting, even a year after the premiere, the game still holds some secrets. Proxy Gate Tactician, a YouTuber, managed to discover a new mission.
NOTE: SPOILERS
You're probably wondering now how he managed to achieve this. I hasten to explain. However, you must be aware that I will mention events from the final phase of Baldur's Gate 3. So if you haven't yet completed that RPG and want to do so, knowing as little about it as possible, I advise you to stop reading at this point.
Moving to the final sequence of the game requires obtaining three Netherstones. Ketheric, Orin, and Gortash each have one piece and there is no other way to obtain them. This means that if you drop even one of them, you won't be able to reach the end. Until now, it was known that such a situation could be solved in two ways:
- simply returning to the place where we left the item we need, and taking it from there.
- if we put the Netherstone in a location that we can't access, a special ending is triggered where the characters turn into Illithids.
Proxy Gate Tactician decided to test what would happen if we abandoned the Netherstones in places that can only be entered once. Things definitely got most interesting when he left them in the Iron Throne. After he left that place, an explosion occurred, destroying the entire location. At this moment, a special quest was also activated, aimed at recovering the lost item. Interestingly, the place where it is located also depends on the decisions made during the game.
Dropping the Netherstones in the Steel Watch Foundry gives a similar effect. This time, instead of a quest, there is a special fight with kobolds that have appeared beneath the ruins of the building. So it's clear that Larian Studios, even in such a situation, thought about people who like to test video games to the limit.
