Reality Merging in The Medium Explained

Krakow-based Bloober Team presented the principles of mechanics behind the two permeating realities in the team's upcoming horror game The Medium.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. The developers responsible for The Medium presented the principles of mechanics enabling the main character to be in two worlds simultaneously;
  2. The protagonist will be able to solve puzzles and find hidden things.

In a recently published video, Michal Napora from Bloober Team, the developers of the upcoming horror game The Medium, presented the operation of one of the key game mechanics. It is about the possibility of simultaneously acting in two realities - the real world and the spiritual world.

The main character of The Medium - Marianne - has a supernatural ability to function in two realities. For two thirds of the game, we will move either in one world or the other, but at certain moments the protagonist will experience them simultaneously. In such moments we will see a screen divided into two parts, a bit like in the local co-op mode (although depending on what happens in the game, one of the worlds may dominate the other, taking up more space).

Controller movements will be recorded in both scenes, although some things can only be done in a specific reality. It is worth noting, however, that the worlds will influence each other - actions taken in one of them may open up new possibilities for the player while exploring the other.

The Medium is coming to PC and Xbox Series X / S. The game will debut on December 10, this year.
