Red Dead Redemption 2 in 15K on RTX 3090
4K is a thing of the past. One Red Dead Redemption 2 player boasted on Reddit about a 15K screenshot. He took it using the DSR technology.
One Red Dead Redemption 2 player shared a screenshot on Reddit. There wouldn't be anything remarkable about it if it weren't for the fact that it was taken in 15K resolution (15360x8640 pixels). As the author of the post says, he doesn't have a monitor supporting such a high resolution - he achieved it thanks to Nvidia's DSR technology.
The screenshot really does look amazing. However, the number of frames per second which can be seen in the upper right corner is anything but - 16. Staying on the topic of fps, it's worth mentioning that Bitcoin_100k belongs to a group of owners of high-end computers who don't worry about the number of frames per second on a daily basis. As we can read in the comments under the screenshot, his rig has a GeForce RTX 3090 Kingpin GPU and an AMD Ryzen 5 5600x.

Why such an fps drop with such good hardware? Well, the reason is the use of the aforementioned Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR) technology, courtesy of Nvidia. Simply put, DSR enables us to generate graphics with a resolution greater than the one supported by our display. It is then scaled down enough for our hardware to be able to display it. However, this does affect the graphics card, which can take a beating when scaling to 15K resolution (hence the 16 fps).
However big the strain put by Ultra Performance DSR on the RTX 3090, it's pretty amazing to see. Many Reddit users in the comments couldn't get over how good the screenshot, which originally weighed in at over 1GB, looked.
