This RDR2 Mod Will Rekindle Your Love for Open Worlds
The VESTIGIA mod has been released, improving the look and realism of the open world in Red Dead Redemption 2. Changes include elements such as weather and vegetation, as well as the densities of passersby and animals on the maps.
Despite the lack of official support for mods, Red Dead Redemption 2 boasts a surprisingly active modding community. The latest manifestation of this is the project called VESTIGIA, which thoroughly reworks many elements of the open world so that it looks nicer and more realistic.
The project is divided into four modules, changing different aspects of the game. The modification is configurable, in case you want to activate only some of the improvements.
- Weather Systems module improves the weather. The transitions through the stages are slower and more natural. The temperature issue has also been improved so that the game better reflects the situation in the US in late spring and early summer.
- Visuals module improves many effects (including rain, water, snow and ice). In addition, it improves the cycles associated with the passage of time to provide more realistic weather conditions (this includes elements such as local fog, low clouds, more realistic rain, snow and dust storms, etc.).
- Flora-Related Changes module improves vegetation. Material simulation has been changed so that terrain responds better to moving characters. It also increased the density of undergrowth in forests and introduced more realistic scrub.
- Ped Densities module increases the number of pedestrians in cities and animals outside them. It improves the realism of the world, but is quite demanding on hardware, so it's a suggestion for those with powerful PCs.

The project was developed by a modder known as no12. While creating it, he used previous improvements by creators such as DayL, WhyEm and Majestic253, and then added his own fixes to these solutions. It is worth mentioning that earlier no12 released an analogous modifications improving weather and seasons in The Sims 4.
Red Dead Redemption 2 debuted on PC in November 2019, thirteen months after launching on consoles. We remind that the PC edition of RDR2 is currently discounted by 50% as part of the Steam Summer Sale. The offer will remain valid until July 7.
