Important information about trophies in No Man's Sky
- 23 trophies among the 28 available ones are connected with the base version of the game No Man's Sky. Only these trophies are required to unlock the Platinum trophy in the PS4 version.
- 5 additional trophies are the ones which were added along with the Path Finder update. These trophies are in no way required to get the Platinum trophy. We added markers in titles so that it's easy to identify them.
- The No Man's Sky Next update from 24th July 2018 did not add any new achievements/trophies.
- All the base trophies in No Man's Sky can be unlocked by playing offline. The only trophy which requires connecting to the game's servers is Reunion, which demands visiting the base of another player. It's important to note that none of the achievements/trophies require PlayStation Plus / Xbox Live Gold subscriptions.
A Scanner Darkly
- Trophy type: bronze
- How to unlock: You need to reach the Naturalist milestone in scanning planet fauna.
- Additional information: This is one of the easiest achievements in the game. It requires scanning all types of fauna (animals) roaming the planet. This trophy can be unlocked on the starting planet. First, you need to repair the scanner and then head out and start your search. To enter scanning mode press L2/LT. Then, you only need to target a creature in order to scan it.
- Note - Don't forget about sending information about your discoveries before leaving the planet. In other case, they can be lost!
A Space Odyssey
- Trophy type: gold
- How to unlock: You need to reach the Discoverer milestone in space exploration.
- Additional information: This is a more difficult variation of The Longest Voyage trophy. To get this trophy you have to use the Hyperdrive 60 times to travel to other star systems. The game doesn't specify any particular systems, so you can travel anywhere you want.
Babel-17
- Trophy type: bronze
- How to unlock: You need to reach the Confused milestone in collected words.
- Additional information: This trophy is connected with learning foreign languages. To get this trophy you have to learn 10 different words using the interactive monoliths and wisdom stones.
Citizen of the Galaxy
- Trophy type: gold
- How to unlock: You need to reach the Babelfish milestone in collected words.
- Additional information: This is a more difficult variation of The Languages of Pao trophy. This achievement is also connected with learning foreign languages. To get the trophy, you have to learn 150 distinct words in total. Similarly, as in the trophies Babel-17 and The Languages of Pao, you can do this by using the interactive monoliths and Stones of wisdom.
Contact
- Trophy type: bronze
- How to unlock: You need to reach the Known milestone in encounters with alien colonists.
- Additional information: Alien colonists are non-player characters (NPCs), who can be met over the course of the gameplay. To get this trophy, you have to interact (try to communicate) with two different alien colonists.
Cradle [Path Finder update trophy]
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: You have to take over a base or a cargo ship.
Additional information: This is a rather unusual trophy, as it can be unlocked in two different ways:
- Claiming an uninhabited base is a rather easy way to unlock this trophy. You can find those types of bases during normal space exploration or place a signal enhancer and use it to find uninhabited bases.
- Buying a cargo ship is more difficult, as they are very expensive (a few million Units at minimum). Consider this option only if you are sufficiently affluent and are willing to use the cargo ship further on in the game.
Foundation
- Trophy type: bronze
- How to unlock: You have to reach the Entrepreneur milestone in the number of Units collected.
- Additional information: This achievement requires collecting 250 thousand Units, which is the currency in the game: No Man's Sky. Units can be gained from opened chests, by selling redundant resources, or by exploring alien constructions. 250 thousand is not much, and as a result should be easy to get early on in the game.
Galapagos
- Trophy type: gold
- How to unlock: You have to reach the Encyclopedia milestone in scanning fauna.
- Additional information: This is a more difficult variation of The Star Beast trophy. To get the trophy, you have to scan all the types of fauna (animals) on 10 different planets. As a reminder, to go into the scanning mode press L2/LT. Then, you simply target a species and scan it. If you're having problems locating all the types of fauna on a particular planet (it's a good idea to have a look around the airspace and under water, assuming the planet has any) just travel to a different random planet.
- Note - Don't forget about sending information about your discoveries before leaving the planet. In other case, they can be lost!
Have Spacesuit - Will Travel
- Trophy type: gold
- How to unlock: You have to reach the Adventurer milestone in on-foot exploration.
- Additional information: This is a more difficult variation of the Symphony for a Lost Traveler trophy. To get it, you have to make 100000 steps. You don't have to think too much about this trophy, as the game is constantly counting your steps. If you want to get this trophy faster, you can simply limit the use of your ship, while on a planet, to the necessary minimum.
Navigators [Path Finder update trophy]
- Trophy type: bronze
- How to unlock: You have to build an Exocraft.
- Additional information: You can start thinking about unlocking this trophy after taking control of any uninhabited base. You have to keep upgrading the base until it's possible to construct the Exocraft Terminal. Using the terminal allows accessing blueprints necessary to construct an Exocraft.
Pattern for Conquest
- Trophy type: silver
- How to unlock: You have to reach the Notorious milestone in the number of destroyed ships.
- Additional information: This is a more difficult variation of The Use of Weapons trophy. To unlock this achievement, you have to destroy 50 spaceships. As a reminder, enemy spaceships can be found while traveling in space. It's a good idea to get yourself a better spaceship along with good equipment so that fighting enemies becomes easier.
Reunion [Path Finder update trophy]
- Trophy type: bronze
- How to unlock: You have to visit a base belonging to another player.
- Additional information: To get this trophy, you have to be connected to the game servers (console players do not have to have an active PS+ or Gold subscription). Remember to check if your game is up to date and includes the Next update. As the game now includes multiplayer, you don't have to explore the universe in search of other player bases.
Stranger in a Strange Land
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: You have to reach the Robust milestone in survival mastery.
Additional information: This is one of the most difficult achievements in the game, as it requires surviving 20 days on a planet with extreme weather conditions. First, you have to locate one of those types of planets while you're exploring space. After landing, you have to last at least 20 days. The length of a day depends on the particular planet. Keep in mind that unlocking this achievement demands over 8 hours.
Here are some important hints helpful to your survival:
- The game can stop the survival counter if you decide to cheat, e.g. by hiding inside your spaceship (after landing or while flying above the surface).
- You can hide in areas on the planet. These can be all sorts of caves and bases. You can even stay motionless (in order to preserve life support systems) and it won't stop the counter.
- You don't have to unlock this achievement in a single try, which would mean surviving (and playing) for over 8 hours straight. You can save your game and continue your struggle at a different time. The counter will not reset.
Note - Do not leave the planet after the 20-day milestone. Stay for another 12 days to get the golden trophy, The Sentinel.
Symphony for a Lost Traveler
- Trophy type: silver
- How to unlock: You have to reach the Nomad milestone in on-foot exploration.
- Additional information: To unlock this achievement, you have to make 50000 steps. You don't have to think too much about this trophy, as the game is constantly counting your steps. If you want to get this trophy faster, you can simply limit the use of your ship, while on a planet, to the necessary minimum.
Take a Deep Breath [Path Finder update trophy]
- Trophy type: bronze
- How to unlock: You need to reach the center of the galaxy in Survival Mode.
- Additional information: Survival Mode is one of the modes available in No Man's Sky. The mode is characterized by a higher difficulty level, which is the result of limiting the number of gathered resources, harsher environments, and more difficult spaceship fights. In addition, if you die, your character loses all their items.
- Read this: It is suggested to start the game in Permadeath Mode to unlock the achievement To Live Forever. This will allow you to unlock both of those achievements after reaching the center of the galaxy. In other case, you will have to complete the game twice to get both of the trophies.
The Diamond Age
- Trophy type: gold
- How to unlock: You have to reach the Magnate milestone in Units collected.
- Additional information: This is a more difficult variation of The Space Merchants trophy. To unlock this achievement, you have to acquire 2 million Units, which is the currency in the game: No Man's Sky. Units can be gained from opened chests, by selling redundant resources, or by exploring alien constructions. To unlock this achievement quickly, it's a good idea to limit your spending in the early phase of the game and not spend money on larger purchases like buying new ships.
The Forever War
- Trophy type: gold
- How to unlock: You need to reach the Legend milestone in the number of destroyed ships.
- Additional information: This is a more difficult variation of The Pattern for Conquest trophy. This achievement requires destroying 80 enemy spaceships. As a reminder, enemy spaceships can be found while traveling in space. It's a good idea to get yourself a better spaceship along with good equipment so that fighting enemies becomes easier.
The Languages of Pao
- Trophy type: silver
- How to unlock: You have to reach the Interpreter milestone in learned words.
- Additional information: This is a more difficult variation of the Babel-17 trophy. This achievement is also connected with learning foreign languages. To get the trophy, you have to learn 50 distinct words in total. Similarly, as in the Babel-17 trophy, this is done by interacting with monoliths and wisdom stones.
The Longest Voyage
- Trophy type: silver
- How to unlock: You have to reach Pioneer milestone in space exploration.
- Additional information: This is a more difficult variation of The Stars, Like Dust trophy. To get this trophy you have to use the Hyperdrive 30 times to travel to other star systems. The game doesn't specify any particular systems, so you can travel anywhere you want.
The Sentinel
Trophy type: gold
How to unlock: You have to reach the Everlasting milestone in survival mastery.
Additional information: This is a more difficult variation of The Stranger in a Strange Land trophy and at the same time one of the most difficult ones in the base version of the game. It requires surviving 32 days on a planet with extreme weather conditions. First, you have to locate one of those types of planets while you're exploring space. After landing, you have to last at least 32 days. The length of a day varies from planet to planet. Keep in mind that unlocking this achievement requires over 10 hours.
Here are some hints helpful to your survival:
- The game can stop the survival counter if you decide to cheat, e.g. by hiding inside your spaceship (after landing or while flying above the surface).
- You can hide in areas on the planet. These can be all sorts of caves and bases. You can even stay motionless (in order to preserve life support systems) and it won't stop the counter.
- You don't have to unlock this achievement in a single try, which would mean surviving (and playing) for over 8 hours straight. You can save your game and continue your struggle at a different time. The counter will not reset.
The Space Merchants
- Trophy type: silver
- How to unlock: You have to reach the Trader milestone in Units collected.
- Additional information: This is a more difficult variation of The Foundation trophy. To unlock this achievement, you have to acquire 1 million Units, which is the currency in the game: No Man's Sky. Units can be gained from opened chests, by selling redundant resources, or by exploring alien constructions. To unlock this achievement quickly, it's a good idea to limit your spending in the early phase of the game and not spend money on larger purchases like buying new ships.
The Star Beast
- Trophy type: silver
- How to unlock: You have to reach the Archivist milestone in scanned fauna.
- Additional information: This is a more difficult variation of The Scanner Darkly trophy. It requires scanning all types of fauna (animals) on 7 different planets.
The Stars, Like Dust
- Trophy type: bronze
- How to unlock: You need to reach the Trailblazer milestone in space exploration.
- Additional information: You can start unlocking this achievement right after the tutorial, which is after doing all the things necessary to repair your ship and leave the starting planet. To get this trophy you have to use the Hyperdrive 3 times to travel to other star systems. The game doesn't specify any particular systems, so you can travel anywhere you want.
To Live Forever [Path Finder update trophy]
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: You have to reach the center of the galaxy in Permadeath Mode.
Additional information: Permadeath Mode is one of the modes available in the game No Man's Sky. This is the most difficult mode and at the same time the most difficult achievement in the game. Dying in this mode results in a GAME OVER screen. It's impossible to resume from a checkpoint and the saves are completely deleted after your characters death. If you fail, your only choice is to start over from the beginning of the game.
Here are some useful hints helpful to unlock this trophy:
- You can "tick" the game by making backup copies of the save files. This is possible in the PC and PS4 versions of the game. You can move the saves to a different folder on your hard drive (PC) or copy them onto a USB stick (PS4). If you die, you can use the backup saves. This way, you lose only some of your progress, and what's more important, you don't need to start over from the beginning.
- If things are getting too hot to handle, you can pause the game and load it from the last save.
- While playing in this mode, you should avoid any serious threats. Don't land on planets with extreme conditions, don't attack ships (unless you have to defend yourself), don't approach local fauna (which can prove to be dangerous), and avoid taking any fall damage.
- Keep an eye on your life support system. Don't go out exploring for too long, as it can end badly. While exploring, keep an eye out for caves and uninhabited bases, in which - if the need occurs - you can seek shelter.
- After leaving the first planet do only the things that get you closer to the center of the galaxy. Ignore all the other activities connected with other achievements. It's best to take care of those during a separate run.
Total Perspective Vortex
- Trophy type: platinum
- How to unlock: You have to unlock all the other trophies.
- Additional information: This trophy is available only in the PS4 version of the game.
Use of Weapons
- Trophy type: bronze
- How to unlock: You have to unlock the Novice milestone in the number of destroyed ships.
- Additional information: This achievement requires destroying 1 ship of any type. Enemy ships can be encountered while exploring space. You can destroy any unit and use any types of weapon you like.
What Mad Universe
- Trophy type: gold
- How to unlock: You need to reach the Ambassador milestone in encounters with alien colonists.
- Additional information: This is a more difficult variation of The Who Goes There? trophy. As a reminder, alien colonists are non-player characters (NPCs), who can be met while exploring the game world. To unlock this trophy, you have to interact with (try to communicate) with 40 different alien colonists.
Who Goes There?
- Trophy type: silver
- How to unlock: You have to reach the Diplomat milestone in encounters with alien colonists.
- Additional information: This is a more difficult variation of the Contact trophy. As a reminder, alien colonists are non-player characters (NPCs), who can be met while exploring the game world. To unlock this trophy, you have to interact with (try to communicate) with 20 different alien colonists.
