One of the possible ending variants in The Thaumaturge gives you one final obstacle to overcome - the final boss Rasputin, whom you need to defeat. On this page of our guide, we show how to activate the variant of the ending where you face Rasputin during Waiting for a Miracle story quest, how to deal damage to Rasputin, how to react to Burdens - very powerful negative effects, and explain the Bond Breaking option to get rid of Wiktor's Salutors.
How to unlock the final boss battle?
- The opportunity to fight the final boss appears in the main quest Waiting for a Miracle. During this quest, you'll frequent Dolina Szwajcarska Park, where a tsar's party is taking place.
- There are different variants of the ending, and some of them doesn't involve a battle against the final boss. Depending on your choices, you can completely avoid the battle and finish up the main storyline without facing the boss.
- To get the boss battle, during the tsar's party, you need to betray Rasputin and tell of his deception to the Tsar (dialogue option shown in the screenshot above) and then reveal the whole truth to the gathered.
- After an ensuing conversation and attempts by Rasputin to prove his good intentions, a battle between Wiktor and Rasputin will take place. The assumptions of this fight is similar to battles against Salutors from earlier quests.
How to defeat Rasputin?
- Similarly to every enemy Salutor encounters, your main task is to defeat incoming shadows. Each defeated shadow takes a toll on Rasputin's health bar. The fight is rather long and there are more shadows to defeat than in any other encounter against a boss.
- Each Shadow has a different Trait active and make sure to look them up as each new group appears. Use adequate Salutors to remove the Traits. If you don't have enough Dimension power to remove a Trait, use appropriate regular attacks. Suffering is a good choice when a Shadow is resistant to conventional attacks, while Strong Attacks should be used if the enemy is immune to negative statuses or can heal itself.
- The final battle is also made significantly harder by the fact that Rasputin can place very powerful negative statuses on Wiktor. These are called Burdens.
- Each Burden is related to a specific Salutor you're using. It is also a status that cannot be removed in a traditional way, such as with Upyr's Liberum Veto.
- The Burdens have powerful negative effects. They may be very dangerous, such as the burden on Lelek as shown in the screenshot above. The effect of this Burden accelerates the loss of Focus points. With it active, after a few turns, Wiktor can easily lose all of his Focus, which will result in more damage received.
The only way to remove a Burden is through Bond Breaking action. You can find it in the action list of the given Salutor (screenshot above). Bond Breaking has two advantages and one serious disadvantage.
- The good aspects are the removal of the negative status that was related to the Salutor whom you gave the action, and the replenishing of HP and Focus of Wiktor.
- The disadvantage is that the given Salutor will no longer fight for Wiktor. You won't be able to use him in the next turns of the final battle.
A successful tactic here may be only removing the most troublesome statuses e.g. the mentioned burden on Lelek.
Wait with activating Bond Breaking until Wiktor is significantly weakened, so you can fully replenish HP and Focus for free. Never rush with a decision, because sending back a useful Salutor will deprive you of the option to use their skills. Other Salutors may not have substitute skills.
End of the fight
- You will not receive any unique rewards other than XP for defeating Rasputin.
- Defeating the final boss unlocks one of the endings that results in Rasputin being arrested and Wiktor becoming the personal Traumaturge of the Tsar.
