The ability to melt ores is an important milestone in the development of your base in V Rising. On this page we will tell you how to do it.

Smelting in V Rising is a process of converting raw metal ores into a more usable ingots. Although you come across smelting in the earlier stages of the game, unlocking subsequent metals will require some effort. On this page, we will present you all the most important information related to smelting.
How does a furnace work?
Furnace is a special structure that you will unlock during one of the early quests (when you build your first Castle Heart). To build it, go to the territory you occupy and activate the building mode (B key). In the "Production" tab and in the "Refinemet" section you will find the object we are interested in. A furnace costs:
- 480 units of stone;
- 60 units of copper ore.
Once placed, approach the structure and interact with it. In the new window you will see a series of activities that you can perform using the furnace. In addition to the ore smelting, the furnace also enables you to, e.g.:
- Processing quartz into glass;
- Making glass bottles;
- Produce whetstones for sharpening weapons.
However, in the early stages of the game, some of these activities will be blocked for you. The they will be unlocked as you progress in the plot, usually by killing one of the V Blood bosses.
However, using the furnace itself is very simple. Place the selected semi-finished product or raw material in the part of the furnace described as "Input". The process will start automatically and finish after some time. The bar at the bottom of the window informs how long the indicated action will take.
You can increase the efficiency of your furnace by placing it in the right spot. Placing the furnace in a closed room will speed up all its processes by 25%, while placing it on the Workshop Floor (unlocked after defeating Grayson the Armourer boss) will reduce the consumption of resources by 25%.
Where to find copper ore?
Rocks rich in copper ore can be easily recognized by their brownish, slightly glowing color. Stones of this type are common almost everywhere on the map, and you can find them very easily in the starting Farbane Woods biome. A short walk along the surrounding paths should reveal at least a few deposits of this type.
Heavy and slow clubs are best for collecting copper ore. However, destroying a copper rock with the starting bone club is impossible due to the too low attack factor.
To mine copper, you will need to have at least a Reinforced Bone Tool. You can craft the Reinforced Bone Set at the Simple Workbench, which you will also unlock early in the game (Fortify quest).
Mining and smelting copper will allow you to create new, stronger types of equipment that will, over time, replace basic bone tools. Copper is also an important ingredient for many important items, such as a whetstone.
Where to find iron ore?
Iron is another ingredient on your path to better equipment and is a natural evolution of the weaker copper. Obtaining this ore, however, will require much more effort from you.
You can recognize iron ore by its characteristic bluish color. It occurs much less frequently than common copper. The best place to collect it is the Hounted Iron Mine in the central part of the map. The abandoned space is filled with valuable raw material, but you must be careful because the mine shafts are patrolled by hordes of undead.
Like copper, iron-rich rocks also cannot be destroyed with just anything. The first tier of weapons capable of mining iron will be the Merciless Copper Tools. You will gain access to them by discovering technologies at the research station or by purchasing a blueprint randomly available from some merchants.
Although clubs are best for mining ores, if you don't have this type of weapon at the appropriate level, a sword or axe will also be useful.
However, just obtaining iron ore is not the end. You will be able to melt it into ingots in the furnace only after defeating V Blood boss - Quincey the Bandit King (level 37). This boss resides in the Bandit Stronghold in the central part of the map. After obtaining blood from this enemy you will unlock the ability to smelt iron ingots.
