Know moreAbout the Prize
The Infosys Prize endeavors to elevate the prestige of science and research in India and inspire young Indians to choose a vocation in research.
The award is given annually to honor outstanding achievements of contemporary researchers and scientists across six Prize Categories - Economics, Engineering & Computer Science, Humanities & Social Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences.
Each prize carries a prize of a gold medal, a citation and a purse of USD 100,000 (or its equivalent in Rupees). The prize purse is tax free in the hands of winners in India.
The award intends to celebrate success in research and stand as a marker of excellence in these fields. A jury, comprising eminent leaders in each of these fields, evaluates the achievements of the nominees against the standards of international research, placing the winners on par with the finest researchers in the world.
The Infosys Prize in Mathematics was first given in 2008. Following the establishment of the Infosys Science Foundation, the Infosys Prize is given in 6 categories.
A new direction
In the 15 years since inception, the Infosys Prize has recognized and awarded some of the most brilliant minds in research and scholarship. The fundamental objective of the Infosys Science foundation is to inspire and encourage future generations of scientists and scholars. From the beginning, the prize has been recognizing mid-career researchers. In 2024, we set out to reward early career researchers who are 40 years or younger with a view to awarding their potential. The changes in our criteria for the prize indicate a commitment to seeking out extraordinary talent and ability early and providing them an opportunity to flourish. We want to create icons for a new generation of aspiring researchers and scholars.
In a challenging and competitive global environment, the foundation would like to encourage young scientists who show the promise of original and paradigm-changing work. The prize seeks to reward those who are making significant contributions in their areas of work and which could also change other fields of research.
