During last week's ASLA Oregon 2024 Design Awards soirée, Mayer/Reed, Inc. was honored with a Green Ribbon Merit Award for our pro bono work on the Gorge Accessibility Project for Friends of the Columbia Gorge. The Green Ribbon for Biodiversity and Climate Action recognizes projects that demonstrate notable strides toward shared biodiversity and climate goals and set an example for what our profession can achieve in areas of carbon drawdown, climate resiliency, ecosystem services and community empowerment. The project, conceptual designs for two accessible recreation sites in the Columbia River Gorge at Cape Horn and Catherine Creek, establishes a vision and develops materials for grants and fundraising. We are proud to be recognized for this important work and are grateful for the opportunity to work with a client and partners that value the goals of inclusivity and climate action. It was a great night celebrating landscape architecture with our peers. We were inspired by the professional and student achievements and incredible projects happening around the region. Congratulations to all the firms, designers and projects recognized at the soiree! #aslaawards #aslaoregon #probono #landscapearchitecture #accessibility #columbiagorge #capehorn

Congrats on the AIA Honor Award! An amazing project to be part of. Landscape architecture and signage by Mayer/Reed, Inc.
Life Skills Training Center for Washington State School for the Blind was recognized with an Honor Award at the 2024 The American Institute of Architects (AIA) WA Council Civic Design Awards! Learning Independence for Today and Tomorrow (LIFTT) is a 10-month residential program designed to teach independent living skills to young adults who are blind or have low vision. While architecture typically emphasizes the visual aspects of space, the programmatic requirements compelled the team to approach design from a different perspective. Senses that are primary to those who are blind or have low vision became the priority. "One of the things that was super impressive is I think it's more than a building - I hope their design process will be a legacy for the profession," said d'Andre Willis, a juror at last night's event. It's an honor to be recognized alongside our amazing partners! Exciting news! Mayer/Reed is part of the OMSI District Coalition (https://lnkd.in/g2HWtDnw). We're thrilled to see this step forward.
I could not be more proud of the progress we’ve made with our partners in shaping a bold vision for the OMSI District and bringing this transformative project to life! Together, we are paving the way for a new neighborhood and hub of science learning, culture, and sustainability on the Central Eastside, including a new waterfront education park that will restore Tribal presence on the Willamette River. The Portland City Council unanimously voted YES today to approve a $15.4 million investment in crucial infrastructure that will now unlock new opportunities for development, job creation, and housing for generations to come. We are so excited for the future. Thank you to our many partners who made it possible! #prosperportland #nwnativechamber #critfc #centraleastsidepdx #hacienda_cdc #portlandmetrochamber

Great feature on the thoughtful design at Redmond Senior & Community Center. Signage by Mayer/Reed, Inc.
We are excited to share I+S Design Magazine’s latest feature on the Redmond Senior & Community Center, which highlights our collaboration with Johnston Architects on this new facility that centers wellness and nature in its design. The center, designed to achieve LEED Gold, replaces the former Senior Center and offers amenities and public spaces, such as a dedicated lounge and library tailored to Redmond's seniors, while also providing community and recreational facilities for all ages. The building integrates wellness through thoughtful design elements, ranging from color schemes and lighting fixtures tailored to an aging population to exercise amenities like the gymnasium and raised walk/jog track. It also supports sustainability through energy-efficient systems and celebrates local arts and culture with integrated art both inside and outside the center. Multnomah County Library and the Southeast Portland community recently celebrated the grand opening of Holgate Library. The bright, modern facility, designed by Bora Architecture & Interiors with multilingual wayfinding by Mayer/Reed, Inc., is the first new, permanent library to open in the Multnomah County Library network in more than a decade. With an emphasis on accessibility and inclusion, Multnomah County Library commissioned Mayer/Reed to design wayfinding with five languages and unique icons to invite visitors to explore the collections, programs and services. The driver for this work — the “we speak your language” approach — is a milestone change in how the library communicates with patrons. Multnomah County is the first library system in the nation to commit to this level of multilingual signage. Read more on our blog: https://lnkd.in/ga_F7cmu #multilingual #wayfinding #inclusivedesign
